Perseverance
Motivational quotes frequently promote perseverance, but I've discovered that it's more about overcoming obstacles when no one else is around. It's the silent choice to press on in the face of uncertainty, frustration, or a slow pace.
Assignments, emotional exhaustion, and self-doubt all felt too much to handle during my last semester of college. I wanted to quit. However, I didn't. I took each day as it came, even if it meant turning in work that wasn't flawless or asking for assistance when I didn't want to. I continued to appear.
Perseverance is "the ability to sustain engagement and remain determined and patient even when efforts take a long time to bear fruit," according to IDG. That sums up exactly what I experienced. Staying in the game is what perseverance is all about, not having heroic moments.
I now remind myself that progress is frequently invisible until it isn't, whenever I feel like giving up on something that is important to me. Furthermore, small, steady steps have greater power than fleeting energy bursts.
Questions for Reflection:
- Can you think of an instance where you overcame adversity? What got you through it?
- Which dream or goal are you currently on the verge of abandoning?
- When results take time, how do you maintain your motivation?

Just showing up is often under-rated.

"Just start, don't aim to finish". Or "try something, differently". Both get me away from worrying about how to get it right, from the beginning. Give me permission to go wrong/try something.
Take some time out for me. Helps remind me why I want to do it. Because I'm worth it.

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve overcome tough times by reminding myself that small steps add up, even if progress isn’t visible right away. Right now, I’m working on a goal that takes time, and I stay motivated by focusing on what I can control each day.

Thanks for posting this! Your story about preserving in college is inspiring! 💗
I overcame adversity when I barely managed to get an A in possibly the hardest class I've ever taken, but after every Tuesday and Thursday lunch spent going over stuff with my professor, I did it. I think reminding myself that I would do it got me through it. Just repeating things like "I am strong" and "I can do it"
Like I mentioned above, I maintain my motivation through self affirmations.
@savanaah One time I overcame adversity was during my first year of college. I was overwhelmed and wanted to drop a class, but I asked for help and made a study plan. I’m close to giving up on a fitness goal now, but reminding myself of my past progress helps. When results are slow, I stay motivated by focusing on small wins and staying connected to my purpose.
