In the first section it mentions Self Regulation.  What ways have you found to be effective for self regulation?

This is probably one of my biggest challenges and I. Interested to hear what works for other people!

@Kristynsmama I will speak of self regulation (emotionally) and what works for me. So on my "bad" days, it's just a matter of trying to persuade and influence myself to get out of bed and do better... do that thing I dread. Whether I remember my goal, give myself a good talking to, I muster the energy to do it. By doing this, I feel like I have just self regulated. This is me taking control over my life by keeping to my decisions. Ok, ok, maybe not full control but I still try. I am that type of person who frequently talks to herself. I try to identify why I feel and try to maintain my emotions now as an adult... because, well, I was all kinds of emotionally disturbed as a child and teen. But overtime (the same way you learned to be honest and authentic and learned to just put one foot in front of the other to keep going), that's the same for me and I just came to be. I may feel one way inside emotionally and mentally but I do not have to act in that way. Being able to self regulate may be difficult but it is very effective and my life is better because of my actions of it.

@YourCaringConfidant

I see that you like to talk to yourself as well. Have you tried using positive affirmations as a way to self-talk?

@Kristynsmama

For the longest time I have been having trouble with self-regulation but I do find positive self-talk to be helpful so i do not catastrophize situations that i am in.

@Kristynsmama Some effective ways for self-regulation include practicing mindfulness and deep breathing exercises, creating a structured routine, setting realistic goals, and utilizing positive self-talk. Additionally, regular physical exercise and adequate sleep play crucial roles in maintaining emotional balance.

I have found letting myself just be with the emotions and wait till the 'storm' passes, especially when angry, really helps. I also journal and listen to music to help me out.

@Kristynsmama so after reading the other commonts here, I think I know what self regulate means now! I think it means a routine or ways to keep our mental health issues on the right path. It's hard for me to stick to a routine with my disabilities, but I guess when bad thoughts come, or I'm going through hard patches. I find the joy in the little things help, like watching a sunrise, sitting outside and listening to the birds, doing art and crafts, listening to music... And if all that fails then I go to sleep 😁 doctor sleep always makes me feel better😁❤

@Kristynsmama

What ways have you found to be effective for self regulation? I found that when it comes to my self-regulation that I have to place boundaries, because without my boundaries I feel that I can easily over extend myself leading to compassionate burn out so the boundaries at this point are mandatory. Another thing I found effective is taking notice to how strong I actually am and applying my knowledge, self- love and self- respect to create a better way to regulate myself.
