Course 3, Discussion 2: Accepting and Providing Feedback
If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video.
Some reasons why accepting feedback is important:
It helps us improve our craft/skills/ourselves
We become aware of our own short comings.
We can learn how others may perceive us.
Reasons why it can be challenging to hear constructive feedback:
We might associate it with who we are as a whole.
We may think the person giving it has lost respect for us.
It can hurt our ego.
The choice is yours! Are you willing to deal with discomfort for your greater good? If so then constructive feedback is an essential tool you must utilize.
Now let's see how to give feedback!
If you prefer a video/audio explanation, please watch this video.
Steps to give useful feedback:
Sandwich it between genuine positive feedback.
Don’t do it too often. Remember a person can only accept so much constructive feedback before it drains them. Use it sparingly.
Ask yourself what you are communicating is beneficial to the person or your own personal preference. Only provide feedback if it will help the person.
Let's practice giving constructive feedback.

Good morning Coffee, I wanted to thank you first and foremost for all ways being caring and empathetic with everyone on the team. Your support here is so wonderful. I am wondering though, if there is something I need to be aware of? As you have not been your normal self and communicated with me as to why you haven't been completing assignments for 3 weeks now? Your responds have always been under 24 hrs. which is amazing and i am so proud of you for that. Also, normally your always so punctual which is super. If there is anything I can do to support, you please reach out. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
@SerenitywithKat
Oooo such big words hahaha! Foremost.. I might have to steal that. 😛
Nice work! 🫂🤍🌞
oh wow @SerenitywithKat, the way you say it, it doesn't make anyone feel the need to take the feedback personally or be hurt by it. well written!
@EllaListens
thank you so much for that.

Hi CoffeePerson198, I really love how consistently punctual and responsive you are. Your quick replies and care for the team make a difference.
I did want to check in, though, as the assigned task has been pending for about three weeks, and I haven’t received any updates; if there’s anything getting in the way or if you need support, please let me know.
Your empathy and commitment to people really shine, and I believe with clear communication, we can move forward smoothly together.
@EllaListens

Hi @CoffeePerson198, I really appreciate your punctuality and how consistently you respond within 24 hours it shows your commitment and empathy toward the team. I did notice that the assigned task hasn’t been completed for the past three weeks, and I haven’t received any updates about it; I’d appreciate it if you could keep me posted so we can support you better. That said, your genuine care for others truly stands out, and it’s something I deeply value in our team.

Hi CoffeePerson198! I hope you're doing well! I wanted to take a minute to talk about your performance lately. I've noticed that you've been very punctual and are responding quickly to members! That is an excellent trait as it shows your commitment and dedication to 7cups! I have also noticed that you have not completed the assigned task for 3 weeks now. This unfortunetly has pushed back our community forum posting schedule, which will affect our members. It is okay if you are not able to complete the task, but going forward, please let me know if you are struggling to complete a task and we can get you some help with it. Overall though, you're doing a great job, and I can tell how much you truely care about what you do.
@wonderfulBlueberry7326
Simple, forward, and yet effective! I love how you structured this response; it's the perfect balance of giving constructive criticism and also showing that you're there to support them along the way in their 7Cups journey. Thanks for your response!

“Hey CoffeePerson198, I wanted to start by acknowledging the great job you’re doing in being timely with your responses and showing genuine care for our team members. I’ve noticed, however, that you’ve been struggling to complete assigned tasks recently, and I’d appreciate it if you could fill me in on why that’s been happening.
Hii Coffee. Great work for being responsive and empathetic. You have an amazing personality that is valued. On the side note, would you be able to complete the assigned task? It has been some time and I am worried about you. If you are facing difficulties, don't hesitate to approach me. We will find a way out. Don't worry. All the best
Hi CoffeePerson198. I am here to provide some feedback about your progress. I am happy that you have been punctual in responding within 24 hours. I have found that you care about people and is empathetic. However, we can move forward only when we get the assigned task completed. I have noticed that you are very interested in this task. However, there is a lack of proper understanding of why the task is not completed. If you need help with anything, feel free to talk and communicate. Thank you for your time.
