Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric
It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal.
There are 2 parts to this discussion.
✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.
✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock.
✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!

In my time as a 7 Cups member, my focus has been on cultivating a positive, supportive environment for others. The key metric I’m focusing on is spreading positivity and being a source of calm and understanding. In 7 Cups, I make it a point to avoid negativity, try to understand others’ feelings, and practice active listening. These values have had a significant impact on my personal life as well. Day by day, I’ve started to implement these practices outside of the platform, and I’ve come to realize how much kindness and empathy have shaped my nature. I truly believe in preserving calmness and spreading positivity, both on and off the platform. This goal of choosing a single metric is important because it aligns with the kind of person I want to be — one who brings peace and support into the world. I’m committed to continuing this work, as it not only helps others but also helps me grow personally. ❤️
I did it but id rather not share my answer :)

- I am a host and I have been hosting weekly Mindful Minutes sessions to help members manage stress and stay grounded. I am also actively helping members with their personal challenges, ensuring they feel supported and heard!<3

- I'll only be sharing how this exercise impacted me since i'm comfortable with that:
This exercise was a powerful reminder to live intentionally. It makes me reflect on my actions, am I acting in a way that would align with what I would want people to say about me? It pushes me to live with purpose and to make sure my efforts are meaningful, rather than being distracted by the urgency of time or distractions.
@FrenchToast Having a single key metric keeps me grounded and focused. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with multiple goals, but when there’s one clear objective guiding me, I can better track my progress and align my efforts. Professionally, this helps avoid burnout and confusion - personally, it helps me stay aligned with my values. As for the exercise, I imagined people saying that I always made time to listen and brought comfort when they needed it most. That reminded me of why I joined 7 Cups in the first place - my compass is kindness and being present for others. That’s what I want to live by.

I think the most important key metric is to keep the environment safe for all members so that they always feel heard and valued

I'm not part of a team yet; however, my key metric is to ensure everyone feels listened to in my chats. It is very important to me to identifying a metric that it is measurable, and that I completely understand what the end intention is with each of my people i speak with. This can help in my professional and personal life, as they will help me manage by fact and with health systems achieve goals faster by having the right strategies in place.

Making sure that everyone feels listened to in your chats is an excellent North Star to have. I also like that you mentioned the need for a measurable key metric. This shows your deep understanding of the 7 Cups core values and ecosystem. I am sure that you'll be a wonderful leader and team member.

I am an academy mentor for the Content Development and Marketing program (CDM), an Always Here project team member, and a room supporter in the student support room. A key metric for my teams is creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone seeking support, whether mentees or participants in chat rooms. Focusing on a single metric helps us stay on track and understand the value of our work. Having a core metric allows us to achieve our goals without losing our way. For me, creating a safe and inclusive space aligns with both my professional and personal values.

I did the exercise, but I don't feel comfortable sharing what the people told me. The exercise helped me gain a clear understanding of my true values. I realized that I am not actively engaging in activities that allow me to follow my compass. I had never recognized how trapped I was in the rat race and how long I had let the fear of missing out dictate my life. The insights I gained from the exercise felt more like an epiphany to me.
@SweetSunset92 goodluck with the course

✒️ Key Metric Reflection & 3 Key Things Post
Improving the safety and support quality on 7 Cups for both members and listeners.
I chose this metric because I believe that a safe and supportive environment is the foundation for healing and growth. If people feel safe and truly listened to, then they can open up and move forward. Professionally, learning how to create and maintain safe, trusting spaces is a vital skill, whether I’m working with clients, colleagues, or community members. Personally, this helps me stay grounded in empathy and purpose, and reminds me that the small things I do daily can have a big impact on someone else's life.
My 3 Key Things Today:
I responded to my member chat requests.
I flagged profiles as part of the SPOT team to help ensure 7 Cups remains a safe space.
I studied 7 Cups courses to grow as a listener and serve better.
✒️ Chapter 12: End of Life Reflection
At the end of my life, I imagine people saying that I showed up with compassion and steadiness. That I was someone people could count on to listen deeply without judgment. That I didn’t always have the answers, but I created space for others to find their own. They might say I made them feel safe, understood, and supported.
Doing this exercise reminded me that the way I want to be remembered is already within my reach; I just have to live it out day by day. It helped me reconnect with my "why." My compass is empathy and presence.

Hello Ella! I love the color choice lol. :D

Choosing a single metric is important because it provides clarity, focus, and alignment both professionally and personally. In a professional setting, especially in areas like project management, product development, or performance tracking, having one key metric clarifies priorities and promotes accountability. On a personal level, choosing a single metric can simplify goal setting and reduce becoming overwhelmed by brining focus, tracking progress, and making decisions.

I completed it but I'm not exactly sure how comfortable I am posting it here.
@FrenchToast
For me, choosing a single metric is key because instead of spreading myself thin, I can focus my energy and measure my progress clearly. That way I know if I'm on the right track or if I need to This way I know if I'm on the right track or if I need to adjust something. It also helps me stay focused on what's really important, even when there are distractions or difficult times
Regarding the end-of-life exercise, although it may be hard to think about it, I think it is a valuable tool to understand what we want to leave as a legacy and how we want to live each day, reflecting on what they would tell me in the end motivates me to act with more purpose and authenticity now.

The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it allows you to focus your attention on one specific goal instead of getting distracted by other distractors. It also provides a way to measure your impact/effort/investment in meeting this goal, which can be motivating to see how much you've done.

Keeping track of our progress helps us see how far we’ve come and motivates us to improve. We can also find out how our contributions over time have helped others, including yourself, to achieve set goals.
