Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric

User Profile: FrenchToast

It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal.

Please watch this video

There are 2 parts to this discussion.

✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.

✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock.

✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!

After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here!

Having a key metric helps to keep in mind why I'm doing this work. It makes it clearer for me to see where I'm going and how it is that I'm moving towards that. For both my personal and professional life, this lets me have something specific to aim for and keeps me motivated while making it easier to avoid distractions.

@FrenchToast

1) I think this goal of choosing a single metric helps me as Room Supporter understand what truly impacts our team’s progress, allowing us to focus our efforts effectively and measure success. Personally, it helps me stay organized and dedicated, and seeing tangible results makes my contributions feel more rewarding.

2) To people gathered around me at the end, I’d say, “I wish I took more risks, traveled more, and spent quality time with loved ones. I hope they remember my kindness, loyalty, and authenticity.”

That's a great response about relating the key metric with the team's evaluation and performance standards. And I really wish that what you hope for your life turns true sooner💖

As a Qlp mentor, the core metric is to produce helpful guidance promptly when mentors are in doubt.. It is important to provide helpful guidance promptly so students can get guidance in time to continue studying and graduate. In personal life, I think being responsive in a productive way allows for a productive and helpful communication so things get solved

As a forum supporter, the key metric is posting various threads and replying to other posts. This is very important as it makes one feel heard and valued.

Professionally, it would help me learn how to communicate with others. It would enlargen my understanding other people's perspective.

Personally, this would enable me learn about other people.

I am not comfortable sharing.

Choosing a single metric is important as it allows for greater progress. By prioritizing and devoting one's efforts to a sole goal, it becomes "easier" to advance and measure your development in achieving a goal. In a way, it kind of tricks your mind into doing work in a more efficient and productive way in both your professional and personal endeavors. Because your brain thinks you only have one thing to accomplish, you're essentially more motivated to do more, and you're less likely drained.

I am a member of Peer support team. Here, the key metric is to make our peers feel supported and have the ability to talk through their feelings. Its important to remember this is our main goal to deliver on the team and this should drive us in our delivery of the services to our peers.

✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. I completed it! However I do not feel comfortable to share my experience

I am a member of welcoming committee. Our key metric is making sure that we welcome enough people each month and guide them with navigating the website or the app

✒️ Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.

Professional life - The North Star metric keeps the team and the organization together even when conflicts arise as they are unified by a common cause. It also helps the organization stay aligned to what they believe in and deliver quality outcomes that make them unique.

Personal life - It helps us stay inspired and persevere even at times when things are difficult. It helps us live authentic lives that give satisfaction and fulfillment.

I chose to post how I feel the exercise impacted me. It was an eye-opening realization that brought me to deeply thinking what do I actually want to do in this life, what impact do I want to leave on the world when I leave. It also made me think what are the areas to improve so that I stay aligned with my calling and also be clearer with the end that I expect. It was interesting to me, and I felt thrilled.

I am on the Anonymous evaluation team and the key metric is to evaluate listeners and make sure of the quality offered to our members. It's important because we aim to make sure that the quality of active listening given tp our members is as best as possible and safe. It also helps me to keep an eye on my performance as a listener myself

I read it but the topic is triggering for me to share my point of view
