Course 3, Discussion 4: One Key Metric
It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal.
There are 2 parts to this discussion.
✒️ Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the 3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.
✒️ (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 of our Searching Soul book and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock.
✒️ Please reply to at least 1 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!

I'm a new member of the safety patrol team. Most importantly, our goal is to maintain a safe environment here on 7Cups. This is a very valuable skill that I am grateful for getting to learn more about on the team. This can help me in my professional and personal life, identifying safety issues and how to appropriately handle the situation.
@blissfulSoul2347
well done!

I am part of the CDM Program team. I am the lead mentor for the program. Our key metric is to ensure that those that are in the program get the mentoring that they need as they continue and progress in the program.

I did the exercise, but I would rather not disclose my reaction. I will say this, though: I have necrophobia, so the slight thought of death terrifies me.

I'm not part of a team, but I’ve dedicated a lot of time to completing my training and earning new badges. I’ve also had plenty of great conversations with both members and listeners, taking on different types of chats and giving each one the attention it deserves

Completed, but it is very personal so will not be sharing. Great exercise though!
@RyanListen Completing the training is my goal too!! Keep going then

_Work with a new role
_Graduate LDP
_ Apply what I learned in real life
This metric is important because this is all I want and need right now. Yes it makes me calmer and consistent in real life

I have six roles here on 7Cups, and they all require quality. I do Quality mentoring, as well as need to keep an eye on my quality in my replies in chat rooms, or one-on-one in peer and chat support. I even make sure there is quality in my responses to members.

I'm sorry, but this is too personal and possibly triggering for me to respond.

It is fantastic that you contribute to 7 Cups in all the roles you have!

I am part of the Chat Support team. I prioritize consistent listening and empathetic support of team members in order to enhance active listener engagement. This helps creates a healthy experience for the members.
Choosing a metric helps me to focus on my goal and enhance myself professionally and personally through self-discipline and purpose.

I am a part of the mentoring team and one key metric we can use to measure our impact is in the number of new listeners that we welcome to the app. This is one of the few things about being a mentor that we can control as a way to do more. By increasing this metric, we have a measurable and clear way to analyze our improvement. This can help in all sorts of circumstances, even in your personal life as a way to work towards new goals.
Completed the other part but do not wish to share.

Choosing a single metric as a goal is important because it helps show how you are moving forward. I am a part of the QLP team as a mentor. My role includes messaging trainees to provide reminders of the tasks that need to be completed for graduation. I do my best to be courteous in these messages. Giving warmth, whether verbally or in writing, is necessary both in my professional and personal life.

My reflections on this exercise: This was rather an intense exercise, as it can cause one to reflect on where one currently is and how close it is to where one wants to be. I do not want life to pass me by and not live as the best version of myself.

I have recently started on the sharing circle hosting team, from my previous sessions I have noticed member engagement and partcipation could be an area I would like to improve. My focus is on creating a safe place where members feel confortable opening up. I understand that I cannot improve everything at once therefore focusing on a single metric would be a great idea moving forward. The key metric I would like to work on is my own accountability and making sure I am keeping to the schedule. I think this is managable and would help members become comfortable with my hosting style and the times where I would be hosting. I understand it can be very dauting, opening up to new people but I hope with the more circles I host, the engagement will improve and members will feel more comfortable sharing in the sessions.

I have completed this part! Happy to keep my ideas to myself if that is okay.
@FrenchToast
The video pushes a single North Star Metric to stay focused and avoid distractions—professionally (e.g., one key goal for 7 Cups progress) and personally (filtering what truly matters in life).
Pair it with the end-of-life exercise from Chapter 12 of 7 Cups for the Searching Soul: imagine what people say about you at your funeral. That becomes your personal compass. Follow it instead of getting lost in the daily clock.
@Lunaware
I accidently put this on my member account, hope that doesn't disrupt things for me
@Lunaware
Such a short but right to the core explanation, well done!
