Benefits of a diverse team  can include having a range of different experiences and skills to draw on in order to help others. Having a greater reach to include as many different people as possible, and covering more times which is particularly useful when different time zones across the globe are considered.

✒️ How can we be respectful of different cultures on 7 Cups?

Do not engage in any activity or conversation that perpetuates stereotypes, they are inaccurate and unhelpful. Be considerate of the people that you speak with, where they are from in relation to the times they may be available and that English may not be their first language which will require additional patients in order to effectively support them.

Please list some advantages of a diverse team.
Having a culturally divergent team allows members to receive help as soon as possible. Example- even if the member is distressed around 3am in need to talk to someone, a listener in a different time zone can be there for them. Another advantage would be the different perspectives, different perspectives will bring new ideas and concepts into the 7cups community where it can be most useful in improving the platform. 

How can we be respectful of different cultures on 7 Cups?
There are many ways to be respectful towards different cultures. Personally, I believe the most important factor is to respect individual beliefs even when they're quite contradictory to what I might believe since we're all working towards a greater cause. Being mindful regarding how other listeners have different schedules and time zones is also a crucial matter in setting up meetings or discussions as their convenience should definitely be considered.

Advantages of a diverse team include (but are not limited to), driving innovation, allows support for people in different time zones, and sharing and learning about different cultures.

A few ways to be respectful of different cultures on 7 Cups include being mindful of our biases which may include stereotypes, and challenge these biases, have an understanding of different schedules and availability due to time zone and cultural differences, and be open to learning about different beliefs and experiences.

Some advantages of a diverse team are unique perspectives they can bring to a team outside of a conventional approaches as that's what different experiences help us with thinking differently.  

I have had several chats with members in different parts of the world.  I'm order to show respect, I became aware of their different time zones and refrained from being vague or using slang in order to properly communicate.

✒️ How can we be respectful of different cultures on 7 Cups?

• Be respectful of individual beliefs

Cultural differences can cause us to support different causes and have contradicting beliefs. Know that it is okay for someone to think differently. If there exists a contradiction in terms of individual beliefs when it comes to a task, work together to reach a mutual agreement or delegate the task to someone who feels comfortable doing so. For example person A may be uncomfortable hosting a Christmas themed event, then you can always find person B who is comfortable with the idea or reconsider the theme.

• Be mindful of schedules and availability

People from different cultures have different celebrations. This means some of us celebrate Christmas while others may celebrate Diwali or Eid. This calls for consideration of schedule, be mindful of when your team member needs a break and who can support the team and pitch in for the person on break. Bonus points for wishing them a happy celebration day!

• Consider time zones

When scheduling anything time-bound consider the differences in time zones. Your evening can be someone’s early morning. Be mindful of these differences when you are scheduling a meeting or a chat. Always provide different time and day options to the team and go with what works for the majority. You can also consider forum communication to rise above the time zone differences in a big team. Try different things and see what works for your team.

A diverse team brings diverse ideas and different perspectives. 7 Cups has a diverse range of members and we can only properly serve them by having diverse teams AND leadership. Diversity is the key to open-mindedness and expanding your view point, which can change the way you personally view the world and others.

By being open-minded and aware and trying to expand our cultural and world knowledge as much as possible. I try my hardest to read broadly and to interact with as many people as I can. I try to come to conversation with curiousity and understanding. I'm also aware mistakes happen and I may disrespect someone accidently, so I'm quick to take accountability and responsibility and apologise.

 Different perspectives can lead to innovation. They allow us to reach the whole world, not just our own country or culture. We can learn about diverse cultures and practices, which enhances our skill set.

As listeners, we should maintain an open and non-judgmental attitude, and we need to apply that skill whether in leadership or as team members. This approach allows us to learn from different countries and cultures. Additionally, it is essential to show respect for others, even when we have differing opinions.
