Stressed out in my relationship.

I've currently been in a relationship with my boyfriend for over a year and it's long distance. Before I got into this relationship I made it clear to him that I had no interest in anything sexual or even physical affection and I wasn't going to change because it makes me extremely uncomfortable. He of course assured me that he doesn't care and just wanted to be with me but that doesn't seem the case anymore. He has now told me that he needs the physical affection but this has put me in a uncomfortable spot. I love him and I want him to be happy but I warned him multiple times before we got together that it wouldn't be what he wanted so now I have to change? He's recently been getting upset (not like angry or anything just annoyed) with me when I've asked him to stop touching me because I can only handle so much of something that makes me uncomfortable. Do I change myself because I want to stay with him or do I need to let this relationship go?

Any advice would help.

@lightThinker9476 you both have valid needs that you have the right to respect. You did well by being clear from the start about your needs and what is ok or not for you. Both wanting sex/touch and not wanting it are valid needs, but in a relationship some needs have to match in order for the relationship to be successful. If someone gives up on something that is too important for them, if someone makes a compromise that lead them to unhappiness, the relationship can't be a happy and fulfilling one.

You should never do something you're uuncomfortable with and no one should pressure you to do so. I'd say the best you can do is openly talk about it with him, sharing your thoughts, feelings and needs. If you find they are not compatible anymore, maybe it would be better for both to part ways and give yourself a chance to start a new relationship with someone else, so that no one has to make an unpleasant compromise and risk their happiness and wellbeing.

@lightThinker9476 - In your shoes, I would probably let the relationship go. Your boyfriend seems to have been less than honest with himself in saying that he had no need for a physical relationship . . . and that is something he needs. It is something you are unable to provide and he is refusing to listen to you. I believe you will only be miserable, if you try to change yourself for somebody else . . .

hey my name is stefanie and i understand what you are saying. i was in a toxic relationship practically and i ended up breaking up with him it wasnt easy cuz it never will be but im not telling you right now to breakup with ur bf but the best thing to do is to talk to him and tell him that if he loves you that he would not be impatient to do something your uncomfortable with. my ex would always tell me he wanted to have more then just kissing but i would tell him NO which is the best answer. some guys just want girls just to use them but im not saying your bf is using you but he should understand that relationships is not all about that its about loving and caring for each other.! i hope this helps you reach out to me if you have anymore questions! @lightThinker9476 hi hope your ok? Was just reading your post and I agree alot what your saying. You are in your own rights and entilled to your own way of thinking and believing how you really feel. You should never and I mean never do anything you feel uncomfortable with. It maybe you haven't met the right guy yet who will accept and not be interested in a intimate relationship too or who will wait cuz your with it so I wouldn't give up. This guy may have his own needs but if you feel you can't change yours and that's how you feel then no one should make you change. Especially a guy. A guy should never change you into what they want you to be. It's different if a relationship isn't working in terms of getting on or feeling appreciated wanted if something has gone wrong in that but when it comes to your own values and beliefs in how you feel it should be respected. Only thing would say is do you feel you will be able to in future have a physical relationship? If not that's fair enough. I just wanted to know if you always felt the way you have or something has changed to not feel you cant. There's listeners who might be able to help further one on one of you don't want discuss and it's private. Though you doing right thing being true to yourself and not giving in to a boy. Hope that helps
