Am I a bad Christian?
I am a 13-year-old transgender man who is also bisexual. I have been going to a catholic school since I was a toddler. I knew I was young since I was gay since I was a little kid and just recently found out I was trans. I have been faced with a lot of homophobia since I was little but always ignored it until recently. I have been told that being gay is a sin. That being trans will put me to *** and a bunch of other religious homophobic and transphobic stuff. Because of the stuff people tell me I have grown a slight hatred to the Christian religion. But I also don't want to go to ***. I have tried praying to God to be straight and cis but nothing works so can someone tell me if I'm being a bad person or not?
You are definitely not a bad person for figuring out who you really are . And ppl who use the Bible as an "excuse" for being homophobic and transphobic or saying that this is a sin ARE NOT RIGHT
It actually is a sin because in genesis God does say that the man is made for the woman and woman is made for the man and going against that mean you have sinned against God. Homosexuality is just the same as any other sin. They both lead to eternity separation from God. And to tell the truth we lead our selfs to destruction Not because of God but because we think we know better.
I hope this helps I dont mean to start any drama 💓
@jesusisthereason
This is incorrect and extremely harmful thing to say to someone questioning or queer.
@RUMBUM I don't believe in heaven or ***, but I can tell you for sure you are not a bad person. By being who you are, you are not hurting anyone. You can be kind, generous and caring whatever your orientation or gender identity is. That's what makes a good person: treating others with respect. As long as you do that, there is nothing bad about you.
Some people will use your religious upbringing and fear of *** to make you feel guilty, but you are doing nothing wrong. Stay strong!
No you not a bad Christian but simply need a change of heart. Not the people around, not Jesus but it’s up to you if you want to change for the better and soften your heart so God can come in and change things. Those people in your life that have treated you horrible are for a reason, God puts people in your life for a purpose all that hate only makes you stronger if you let it. And remember there is nothing to hard for God, don’t think of God as a religion because he’s Not he’s our father, creator an our provider and there’s nothing too big for God and I believe you Got this and you can change for the better! For the sake of saving your soul :) 💓
Hi there, saying this as someone who grew up in the Christian church, even if I've left the faith myself, and am also not cisgender (agender) and not heterosexual
While yes, people love to quote Leviticus 18:22, there's debate on whether it was properly translated. And those people forget Romans 8:38-39 (translation from the NIV): "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, eight height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord". Being transgender and gay doesn't mean that you're suddenly unloved by God or that you're a horrible Christian
There's also Psalm 139:13-14 (also from the NIV): "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." God made everyone in his image, who's to say he didn't make people transgender and gay? We can't speak for Him or His choices on that
There's also Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Jesus will still give rest, to those who are seen as wrong and bad. He was with people who were shunned from society and was still beside them
Galatians 3:28: "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus". That could be used to argue that Jesus doesn't truly care about something like gender as everyone is one with him
Even in the New Testatment, there is nothing specifically said against homosexuality or being transgender. The Bible is something that can be taken by every persons interpretation. Even with like 1 Corinthians 7:2 could be explained as being against cheating and not being gay
To make a long post short, your not wrong. Your not a bad Christian. There's a lot of resources out there of different people in the Christian Church talking about how your not wrong or anything for it
@RUMBUM
Asking "Am I bad for [insert something]?" depends on who you're asking. Who's deciding what is bad and what is good? I hear that you're questioning your religion (as background, I'm exvangelical) as it relates to your identity. I think what's true right now is that you're trying to find what's true, what's good, while also holding onto who you are. Sending you love as you are on this journey and I would encourage continuing to talk to people with lived experience and asking questions (or even a mentor?).
