How Animals Help Us To Be In The Moment

Have you ever thought to yourself what keeps me in the present moment? The company of animals has been noticed to have a healing effect in many of our lives. Could this be because they do not judge us like fellow humans do. Animals can get annoyed with us if we stroke them the wrong way, but they never judge us for any flaws we may have. Lets say a cat for instance: Would it ever judge you for how much we eat? Credit card debts? Or that we do not call our moms as much as we should? Our animals love us they can embody mindfulness to an individual by being a non-judgemental source of comfort. They are not busy thinking about yesterday or what is happening tomorrow. They are simply there sitting in the present moment.

You may be thinking: Hey Karrot why are you talking about animals being in the present moment? Well pets can help us to practice mindfulness did you know that? Next time you are with your pet I want you to take a few moments to really notice everything about them. When you stroke the, pay close attention to how their fur, feathers, scales etc. feels beneath your hand. Maybe even just imagine that it is the first time you ever felt them and see what a difference it makes to your experience with them. Notice their appearance. Watch how they are breathing, listen to their heartbeat if you are snuggled up with them. Perhaps the most important thing of all, create a sense of gratitude for having them in your life. Let the gratitude fill you from head to toe.

That is lovely. I like your style of writing too.

Animals can be a gift. My dog is the only one who notices when my depression is acting up again. She will sit with me, try to get me to play with her, make me pet her. She is trying to get me out of my own head, and into the moment with her. I feel so loved and noticed when she does this. Animals are awesome.

@lovelyHope20 Thank you for sharing! My dog notices my depression as well and will stay near me when I'm very depressed and try to get me to pay attention to her. She's amazing. Unfortunately my depression can be so bad that her presence doesn't make me feel better, but she definitely helps keep me from depressive episodes by being a bright spot throughout my day smiley

@Zulegirl Hi there! Wow working with horses must be so meaningful. I don't have any direct experience with horses but they look so lovely. I've always wanted to get to know them better. Thank you for helping horses as a horse vet! 💜 🐴

@Zulegirl- awesome to see you are a horse vet. My horses are my passion- teaching children how to understand horses communication- it has been a new direction for me. And the kids are loving it.

There have been many times when I had cats in Michigan before I moved to Chicago where I'd come home from school or work tired, and a cat would immediately want to sit on my lap and purr themself to sleep while I was settling down and watching a TV show that was recorded when I was away. Sometimes, I'd softly talk to the cat also, and the cat would be simply purring away but I knew the cat was also listening to me. blushheart

@KarrotCake Animals can be helpful for any people. They don't judge you as mentioned in this post. They also love you unconditionally even when you aren't feeling your best. They just enjoy being with you because you are who you are.
