Check In for September 16th to September 18th 2024

This week our check in is about Communication when using mindfulness. Mindfulness Communication is when we use empathy and active listening and how we interact with others when talking. These are the two important parts in communicating whether their co workers, spouse, children, parents or friends.

Mindful Communication helps in strengthens our talking and enhances our mental state. It helps in building better relationships in our lives, boost our moods, resilience. One may work on building their traits for example " forgiveness and gratitude" and "Mindful decision making".

Embrace Emotions Like Gratitude and Forgiveness :

this is when we forgive someone but also for ourselves. You can also write a gratitude letter to someone who has inspired you, mentored you, been there for you.

Compassionate:

Showing compassion not only to you but others it shows empathy or sympathy depending upon the situation.

How do you show self - compassion to yourself?

How do you practice self  - awareness ?

Can you apologize for something you did wrong?

@pamharley003

These are great questions pam!

How do you show self - compassion to yourself? When things are rough, I tell myself "It's okay to feel how you feel right now, this is not easy, but you will get through"

How do you practice self  - awareness ?  I like to "watch" my thoughts and do a body scan. At times I just sit down and ask myself "What is really bothering you?"

Can you apologize for something you did wrong? Yes, it's usually not a problem at all. I used to over apologize for anything, even if it wasn't my fault but I hardly do that anymore. I apologize for what I do wrong.

@pamharley003

Forgiving myself is very, very hard. I have spent years of my life in an abusive relationship and it's honestly even harder to forgive myself for staying that long. He's an abusive person. I can accept that. But me? Why did I stay? I was supposed to be achieving so many things, not just staying home with learned helplessness... why did I BELIEVE him when he repeatedly insulted me? I feel like I've abused my own brain and wasted YEARS off of my life. :(

I try to be self aware as much as I can, especially when I'm having strong emotions so that I can understand the context of why I'm so emotional/what was triggered.

Yes I can apologize, but I also apologize excessively out of fear of having done something wrong even when I hadn't. I need to work on gaining awareness of when someone actually deserves an apology, because right now I tend to apologize for existing...
