Hello everyone in Mindfulness, I hope you're having a good day laugh

Something which is quite effective in dealing with triggers is to prepare ahead of time with your mantra and affirming statements so that you are empowered to stay strong when confronted by them.

enlightened How much do you know your triggers and what are you doing to be prepared and to deal with them?

Ahhh, such a great question!! I know some of my triggers and often ask myself why I don’t have a plan in place to deal with the emotions. I don’t have an answer. Here’s an example, I’m in the process of making a major work change. I j ow loss is a huge trigger for me, so why didn’t I prepare myself to deal with the loss of the job/people I’m leaving?? I had to deal with the effects and dig out of the heavy emotions that landed in me. I’d like to learn to be prepared bs putting out fires. ☺️

I think it's normal to feel some sort of sorrow when we loose people or circumstances we feel comfortable with/in but it's tough to get caught up in the situations because they will always reappear, it's part of life. I find mindfulness is very helpful to become aware and also process our emotions. You can find a number of very helpful community paths here https://www.7cups.com/path/modifier/community/

Great question as always Peace. I have a lot of racing thoughts sometimes, especially when I'm anxious or tired... and then everything can be a trigger. However, a trigger i notice a lot lately is popular people I see on social media, I would immidiately compare myself to those one and feel alot of self-doubts and low esteem.

I have started a new personal growth path on 7cups on self-care and self acceptance, I think it will help! I think i need to have more internal messages that remind myself of my worth!

Hi there and sorry for the late reply. What concerns social media I believe we only see what's written or shown there like pictures but the true story might be so much different. I hope the path for self esteem and self care will help you to see that you're just perfect as you are. There might be a few little things thinking and behavioral pattern which need attention but those do not define you as a person - you're good enough as you are heart

I am quick to anger, But my daily meditation practice has taught me to stop and breathe through the situation so that I can have a clear head and come to a solution for the problem.

It's much easier to deal with a challenge when the head is clear, glad meditation helps you.

Sorry for the late reply.

This is an amazing question.. I'[m learning my triggers and how to handle them. It's when they pop out of no where or my brain does it to it's self that I have the most trouble.

When dealing with a trigger I try and breathe and reground myself. Try and remove myself for whatever it is ( Go for a walk or watch a movie). I'm interested in seeing with everyone else says and the tips they may share!

@Goldcherry2113

I agree, walks and movies can be very helpful to occupy the mind until the initial negative emotion has lessened or even dis appeared. To understand the trigger and deal with the root one certainly needs a clear head.

I always found it so weird that some 'self-help' websites I've read tell you that in order to deal with anxiety and depression, you need to try and 'avoid' your triggers. But if the trigger is a memory from your own mind, you can't exactly avoid that, can you? Some triggers you simply cannot avoid.

Whenever a bad memory of mind jumps up I usually try and replace it with a happier memory. Or I remind myself that I'm a badass haha.

@cafedaydreams

Overriding bad memories with good ones sounds very helpful to me! I believe when people say to avoid triggers, they might mean until one is strong enough to deal with them but at the end the trigger root needs attention in my view.

I think I know a good amount of triggers, my problem is understanding just how they affect me and how I express them in my everyday life. I am learning how to be aware of them and what I can do to overcome and use them to help me instead of affect and bring me down. I think some of my triggers actually serve a big purpose even if they seem negative in nature.

@Ivy229

Turning your triggers into lessons is a great way, glad you're handling them better.
