~ Setting Boundaries ~

Oftentimes, setting boundaries is challenging for most of us, especially with those who have grown up always prioritizing other people over themselves.

Let's try this exercise for our check-in!

Is there a boundary I can communicate as a way to respect my own needs?

Oh yes there is, there is always a way to let people know when they have crossed a boundary with me. I find the direct approach works best in my line of work. We sometimes don't have the time to take and discuss exactly what has transpired that made either one of us uncomfortable. It is brevity that seems to work best in my workplace. Just stating what is causing one to react a certain way and letting the other person know right away is the best approach. That doesn't mean that one has to be angry or mean to the other person. It just takes less time when involved in important work. Now at home it is a different scenario; there you can take your time in discussing what it is that the person has done to break a boundary with you. I believe in taking a kind, direct approach is better than letting it go one until one is resentful. By addressing the person as soon as this has occurred is one way to avoid a situation neither one wants to develop.

@xandia

Hi Xandia, I like what you have said. Here in my culture, people tend to go around the bush, which I think causes more misunderstandings sometimes. I think that sometimes, we just need to be very direct to the point but not in an angry way. Thank you for sharing this, Xandia! Really good response. :)

Within the past few months, I've learned a lot about boundaries and feel that I'm better at establishing them. I feel this is an important part of self-care. Thanks for bringing awareness to it.

@crang17 Is there a boundary I can communicate as a way to respect my own needs? 💕

One boundary in a sense if to limit my going to places that tend to trigger me. So I can set boundaries for myself as well as for others. And I only have control of my own actions so this works for me.

@soulsings what you've said is something that relates to me too. I have difficulty letting go sometimes and would have those places stuck in my head even. But, I agree with you, we should be more mindful of our own boundaries as well and learn to prioritize our wellness over anything. No one else would do it for us. ❤️

Boundaries...phew! Yeah. This topic speaks to my soul!

The problem with boundaries is that even though you set them, some people don't respect them. I've set topic boundaries with family members, and they've gotten better, but it literally got to a point where I screamed at them, telling them I didn't want to hear about it anymore. I can only tell you so many times before I lose it and then tell you in a mean way.

If someone tells me "I don't want to talk about it" then I'm not going to talk about it. I have a friend who will say "I don't want to get into this because it hurts me" and that lets me know that she just wanted to mention something briefly and move on. If I continue the topic she's going to be in a lot of pain. We're good with each other that way. I wish some family members would do the same.

@thoughtfulmomma

I feel you with some family members not following boundaries most of the time. Someone once told me that our families are usually the ones who hurt us the most because they are more familiar to us. It is amazing though when we have friends who are good to us. I am glad that you continue communicating your boundaries to the people around you.

@crang17

Hello Crang thank you for this check in

Is there a boundary I can communicate as a way to respect my own needs? 💕

Oh why yes. I always let people know that if they need some help(in my real life) I have this time and day. Does it work for them. Many do not respect my boundary on this. I do try and be kind when I enforce this-but mostly I have to take more time out of my days to help and support them. This week however I have been a bit stricter with kindness❤️

Hi @RumpleSteeleSkin, I feel you. Sometimes, we just need to be strict with kindness, so people will start realizing and understanding that boundaries are there to maintain the well-being of a person. Cheers for standing up for yourself! ❤️

I also appreciate you bringing awareness to this powerful topic "Boundaries".

Over the past few years, I have become better at setting boundaries and making them clear with others in my life. Boundaries helps to maintain a level of respect and self-awareness.
