Daily Mindfulness Check-In July 26, 2021
Happy Monday to everyone. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and you are all doing well ![]()
Living in the now
Your mind is always working and processing a lot of thoughts every day.
These thoughts can be your friend if they're creative and help you make plans or figure out a problem but thoughts can be your enemy when they make you worry, when they tell you negative things about yourself ![]()
By default our minds wander between the past and present. Thinking about negative past events comes at an emotional cost. Learning to keep your thoughts in the now is very helpful since this is the only time we can still change something, whether it is the situation or ourselves by acceptance ![]()
One way to stay grounded is to simply think about the things that you see, smell, hear and taste and feel while you're doing any kind of activity like for example cutting the grass.
How can you manage our thoughts with mindfulness?
What helps you most to stay grounded?

First of all again I am gonna appreciate you peace for posting beautiful and calming pictures. That horse is so beautiful just like in the magical stories. And thanks for sharing about thoughts. And I agree with you they can be our friends as well as enemies too
For managing thoughts through mindfulness, I would say we can do meditation or just sit in peaceful place garden and listen to the nature like voice of birds and all. It's really calming ✨
I don't know exactly what helps me most to stay grounded maybe just practicing my normal routine and reading quotes 💖
@LovetoGod
Sitting in s peaceful place garden and listen to the nature like voice of birds is a wonderful idea to practise mindfulness!![]()
@amiablePeace77
Yeh, in our school our yoga teacher taught that 😃
For these past 3 months I've been meditating diligently almost every morning. Mindfulness has been accompanying me from day to day now. Well I'm not always mindful, but I keep noticing more and more of my surroundings and be able to appreciate them. It has also been a great help to manage my thoughts. It helps me notice when my thoughts are starting to run wild, this pause allows me to make a choice on what I want to do with the thoughts. So far even though I still mostly don't know what to do with thoughts (or situations), at least I can let them go, by refocusing to my breath and not let them consume me.
Ami, very nice what all you wrote to us above before the questions!
How can you manage your thoughts with mindfulness? Think about the hear and now, what is around me, and what I am sensing with my body.
What helps you most to stay grounded? When I can remember to focus on the things that I can touch, and focus lots on the details about how they feel to me-- remembering to describle the details to myself. Also, doing all I can to realize that I am safe where I am currently at and am not in any actual present danger or being abused or violently attacked.
Literally grounding helps me stay grounded, nature walks are the absolute best. Grounding meditations are good too but nothing compares to a good walk in the woods or the mountains or by an ocean or lake. Controlling my thoughts is much harder. I don’t know if I want to even bother controlling my thoughts so much as I’d rather find a way to be in a state of peace and calm despite my thoughts. Doing the engaging my senses exercise has sometimes worked as a distraction and sometimes hasn’t. I need to find other ideas that work better.
@Njorun1338
Having an inner place of peace and calm is very important to stay stable in life. It's good to have a number of different practises and skills.

Thank you anyway, but I did take a look at that forum when I signed up and it honestly doesn’t contain any information I haven’t already heard before ad nauseum over the years. I do appreciate the assistance. I really need different ideas though that help with deeper, more strangle-hold anxiety attacks. Box breathing and affirmations are nice, but they only do so much.
I am in therapy with being able to identify my thoughts and emotions which probably sounds crazy but most times I am just numb to mostly all of my feelings and my thoughts are constantly racing and not settling down day and night which keeps me in hyper-reactive mode. I can not smell since Covid. I am just now beginning to learn to ground, I still suck at it but practice will make perfect. I feel bad that it has taken me this long to get help and gain tools to better equip myself. But I am in it to win it![]()
@scarletPear1945 thank you for sharing some of the challenges you face. It must be difficult not being able to smell things. Smell is also an important part of tasting foods. When my nose is stuffy then foods do not taste as good.
Wishing you a full and complete recovery from any Covid symptoms.
@soulsings
Thank you very much![]()
Had a breakdown today in my schools bathroom. I called my mom to talk it out though and now I’m trying to make the rest of my day worth it
@RosyCheeks01
So sorry to hear you had a bad day at school. I hope that you get to feeling better real soon. You are not alone![]()
Thank you
@amiablePeace77 something that helps me manage my thoughts and memories when they're stressful and anxiety inducing is to remember to look at the facts and how i'm not in that situation anymore and i'm here, safe and alright. it helps me most to take deep breaths and be aware of when i'm spacing out or not really paying attention so i can bring myself back to reality and what's happening in front of me right now instead of drifting off into what was or what should be. intaking the sounds and sights and feeling my blankets or my cat around me helps me remember that i'm right here in the present moment :)
@mobteru
I think it's a very relieving reminder to tell yourself that you're not in that situation anymore and you're here, safe and alright.
@amiablePeace77 mhm absolutely, it's been of great help to me when i feel stuck in my head and when i'm having memories and flashbacks. it's been great keeping myself in the present moment instead of being stuck and thinking about how i was hurt :)
I can do grounding techniques, but only for very short amounts of time. I have way too many thoughts swirling around in my head to concentrate any longer than 5 minutes. I'm kind of working on making my mindfulness longer. What I have found helps me get into a mindfulness-like state is actually my environment, particularly places that I'm in a lot, such as my bedroom. When it is tidy (or at least as tidy as I can make it), the space becomes more inviting and comforting. Sitting in certain places in my room, such as on the floor near my bed also helps.
