I always congratulate others on their success but rarely have I ever congratulated myself or not often enough

@CheeryMango

I think many people grow up without learning to say thank you, well done to themselves so we often think it's a sin to praise ourselves later on. On the other hand we learn to congratulate others, see their successes. It's okay to self congratulate and it's healthy, it helps our self esteem.

I hope you will do it more in future. smiley

I congratulate myself each night that I was able to accomplish the things I needed done each day. The things I did not get to I let myself know that tomorrow is another day.

@amiablePeace77 I guess I have not given myself enough credit for what I did.

Today I did some calming exercises before I got out of bed. Then after breakfast listened to online mindfulness guided meditation. It helped to calm me down.

@soulsings

I do hope that in future you will give yourself more credit for all the help you offer other people, for all what you accomplish here and especially for what you have done to support yourself in life.

Starting the day in a calm way like you did, gives one a good buffer for whatever might pop up during the day.

@amiablePeace77 I like the story about the healer that healed people by everything their shadow touched and did not even know it. I hear the words of helping others and I accept them gratefully, but what uplifts people in my opinion is when they see a part of themselves that they have been searching for reflected in another.

I want to be that mirror. The mirror reflects back an image of your own self. To me that is what heals someone when they see that living reality within themselves.

I love congratulating people. But I don't do it for myself. Maybe that is something that I should work on

I notice I am very adamant about responding to the success of others, and congratulating them, but not so much myself. I do recognize my own successes and that I should be proud of them, but I think I could do more in allowing myself rewards and thanking myself for accomplishing things!

madisonhopex, nice that you recognize your successes but I hope that you will also start rewarding yourself for them. Have you thought doing something very special one day this or next week to give yourself recognition for all you accomplished in your life and never rewarded for, just like some very special me-time?

@amiablePeace77 thank you for the post!

How often have you congratulated others in the past for their successes and how much have you congratulated yourself for what you have accomplished in your life?

- I always look forward to congratulating others for their success so that they feel appreciated and because they deserve it! However, this narrows down when it comes to treating myself the same way, which I don't. I'm working onto improving myself and I hope that I can treat myself the way I should be. I've seen improvement in the past couple weeks and hope to keep going the same way!

@amiablePeace77 this is a great question to ask myself. I do "pat myself on the back" at times but most likely not enough. I share this as I do not need a "pat" when I do things-as they are life things right. But I do self care more now a days with being more busy in lifeheart

Hello everyone and happy thursday! I'm new to the mindfulness community and I would like to understand better what do you like to discuss about in this community? I saw there are daily check-ins, what these are meant for? I'm not sure if this is right place to ask... now I'll try to answer the questions :)

This post is making me think..... although I did congratulate others quite many times I think for their accomplishments, I believe that too often I didn't show them much enthusiasm and enough appreciation for their work... I often fail to show enthusiasm, maybe coming from my own insecurities and sometimes jealousy/envy?

As for me I do try to congratulate myself whenever I accomplish something, but I constantly have the feeling that actually I haven't done that much... so even if I do congratulate myself, any comment from someone else is liable to lower immediately my self-esteem/satisfaction.

This is a little bit of my experience so far... :)

@RinaP

Hi RinaP, good to see you here and welcome! laugh

We often value others much more than ourselves. I hope that mindfulness will help you to become aware of your own worth and feel comfortable in your own skin, hugs.

In the daily check ins you will find a main post. Members will reply to the question asked in the post and give their thoughts and ideas. They can be simple icebreakers or also about mindfulness exercises and questions. They serve to help practise mindfulness.

In the mindfulness community we discuss and practise mindfulness skills, you will find forums about various ways to increase awareness andd also a nook from our therapist Lisa with very valuable information about mindfulness.

This link will give you more detailed information about the forums.

We spend far more time dwelling on our failures than celebrating our successes. If we can spend so much time thinking about our tiny failures, why cant we spend the same amount of time thinking about our tiny successes? I personally don't do this enough. If i succeed it's on to the next thing to try to succeed at. We never really sit with it and think, I did that.

@psychespirit I totally agree.

I was reading that we are 3 times as likely to focus on a negative situation rather than a positive one. It seems we are wired to detect things that are wrong as part of our survival instincts. But this like our fight or flight response can be too much when there is no real threat.

I tend to support other people and wish them the best in their life but when it comes to myself I don't believe I can achieve it. However if I did achieve something, then I would do something fun to celebrate. I have recently tried to reward myself for smaller achievements and not just big ones. Also I have taken time out each day for self-care, which to me is a reward in it's self to have a break from the hussle adnd bussle of life.
