Daily Check-In January 19th to January 21st 2026

Definitions:

Chaos: complete confusion and disorder, and a lack of communication.

Calmness is the state of being free from violence, disturbance, and enjoying peace and quiet.

Focusing on your breathing when you feel tense is not just a mindfulness technique; it also helps relax your body from the tension you experience. By practicing breathing exercises, you can quiet the negative thoughts that loop in your mind like a broken record.

Thinking is something we do every second of the day. We often ask ourselves questions like, "What do I need to do now in my life?" or "Can I meet this work deadline within the given timeframe?" There are times when we overthink or have negative thoughts.

We may recall meaningful memories from the past or contemplate our current situation, but regardless, our minds are constantly occupied with thoughts about something or someone.

Mindfulness is more than just a set of exercises; it is an operating system for your mind. Our mental processes can often jump around chaotically, so it’s important to find stillness. Regaining control over your thoughts allows you to clarify them and understand them better. It’s like painting a picture, where you gather all your ideas and create a cohesive image on the canvas of your mind

What exercises help you become calmer in life?

Meditation, yoga, tai chi, qigong and gardening are powerful ways for me to calm.

@The24hrClimber

and I wrote down my intrussive thoughts... I think I'll start a diary to just throw down persistant thoughts.

I stumbled on mindfulness in particular back in 2010 whilst cycle touring in Thailand at one of the many temples that are everywhere.

As an athlete body scans, progress muscle relaxation and breathing are my go to choices, a nice way to check in with how my body is coping. I run on the treadmill daily and now I'm getting older Intend to start much slower and ease into it, this is a combination of breath and body scan, I love being aware of my breathing, body scan to check all is in order and good to go as I ramp up the pace then back to breath again as I settle into a pace for the days run.

My daily runs are viral for my peace of mind as raising my heart rate ensures plenty of blood is being pushed through my heart and around my body, particularly through my lungs. My blood still coagulates excessively and this mindful part of my day is absolutely viral to both my sense of physical wellbeing being and psychological too.

My favourite experience was around 2016, a lifelong friend who lives in Chiang Mai, Thailand, took me to a temple, to a sàuna on the morning I was due to fly back, it was awesome it was close to 40c outside, so I have no idea why the needed the sauna but within a few minutes it was the hardest I can recall finding it to breathe. The sauna was on two levels, how the monks on the upper level were able to chant in unison was beyond me, I was barely breathing but it is one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

I had a couple of teeth pulled at a dentist a few years back, focussed on my breath with me eyes gently closed and bracing myself for the pain, what pain, didn't feel a thing :) :)

Journaling my thoughts helps me calm down my mind. Listening to calming music also helps me calm myself down. Meditating on God's truth about me also helps me calm my mind.

My immediate response won't be any great surprise, I love walking usually with instrumental music at low volume. been a lifelong form of therapy for me.
