Mindfulness Check-In December 7, 2023

Sometimes people feel they are "expected to be happy" over Christmas, and this expectation can feel like a burden.
What is hard for you this Christmas season and where you find joy in the midst of your current circumstances?
@amiablePeace77
The hardest part for me this Christmas is not being able to celebrate Christmas with the person you wish to celebrate it with, your love one and being able to tell them right in the eyes HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM, but all you can do is wish them the best and pray for their happiness and well-being.
Christmas is about joy and happiness but when you don't have that one person that completes you sometimes it can feel sad and not so joyful after all .
@Guille97 I'm sorry you can't spend xmas with that special someone😞 I hope you have fun anyway ❤❤❤ and good news😁 you still have us, to put up with😁😁😁 yaaay! We'll keep you company ❤❤ gives you a giant festive tiny hug ❤
@amiablePeace77 What is hard for you this Christmas season and where you find joy in the midst of your current circumstances?
I have only one sibling left in the immediate family and we do not celebrate Christmas in a traditional way. I still have memories of Christmas past but this one will not be like them, but will try to make it a time of joy.
One thing we are doing is Christmas Support Group meetings! 3:30 PM EST in Mindfulness and 6PM EST (1/2 hour earlier than usual) in Fifty Plus. Hope anyone wanting to celebrate Christmas in an informal but supportive way will stop by. Those rooms are popup rooms and open 10 minutes before the starting time.
@soulsings thanks for the information🤗 it's always a bit late for me to attend, unless I'm having a bad night at some point ❤❤gives you a giant festive tiny hug ❤❤ merry Christmas ❤
@Tinywhisper11 hugs coming back at you! <3
@soulsings
Are these informal holiday celebration groups opening soon? And last until after the new year?
@communicativePond1728 these are the regular sessions that happen to fall on a holiday so for anyoone celebrating you can attend and enjoy the holiday.
Here is the schedule https://www.7cups.com/forum/50plus/QAsDiscussionsResources_1770/50plusDiscussionsandTopicsOcttoDec2023_207920/
Just being continually *** on and ignored by everyone and everything is pretty hard.
There's no way to control that. I'm just supposed to chill and have every dream killed.
@communicativePond1728 I'm sorry that's happening 😞 we won't ignore you here on cups ❤ we love you ❤❤I hope you can have a nice xmas, gives you a giant festive tiny hug ❤
@Tinywhisper11 thanks tiny. Sometimes I feel ignored on here. 😩But I know it part of the healing process.
@communicativePond1728 awww I'm sorry sweetie, I feel like that in here sometimes too. But I don't think it's being done intentionally. Have you tried out the group chat rooms much?? They are great for making friends ❤
@amiablePeace77
As always, it is a little challenging to be single among all the "cuffed" couples and families. I'm happy as I am but the holidays really reinforces the desire to be with someone.
@neatBlueberry5213
I can understand you neatBlueberry5213. It just feels nice to share lovely Christmas food or watch a nice Christmas movie with another person. I know some people go into senior homes or Christmas parties organized by particular organizations where everyone can join, that can help to feel less lonely on Christmas. 7cups will be open 24/7 and there will be a discussion in Mindfulness at 3:30 pm est and Open chat at 6 pm est.
feeling like you have to take on the role as mediator to keep the peace
@Anika3118
Conflict during the holidays (and of course any other time) is sad but it is unfortunately quite common. It must be hard for you feeling that you're the one having to maintain harmony. I hope this Christmas will be a peaceful one for you and others.
Btw what would happen if you would not intervene and distance yourself if an argument arises?
@amiablePeace77 I feel anxious that the conflict would escalate, but I do wonder the actual reality of what would happen. Definitely food for thought.

Hard to be in the Christmas spirit when your mental health has taken a turn out of no where and your hair is tarting to fall out and you want to cut it but your emotional about it cause you’ve had I’d for so long.💔
@amiablePeace77 I miss my son who died in June, which takes my family down to two. Now, it's just my younger son, and I we are trying hard to make this holiday season as normal as possible.
@patientChestnut5337 I am so sorry for your loss. It must be quite a challenge to keep things positive in the midst of fresh grief.
What are you planning for the holidays to make things special?
