Suppressing bad memories
Daily Check-In September 15th to September 17th 2025
We all experience bad memories at some point in our lives. Sometimes, these memories can resurface all at once. But how can we prevent them from reappearing repeatedly? A bad memory is an experience from the past that evokes trauma, negative feelings, or sadness.
Suppressing bad memories can help redirect our thoughts toward mindfulness techniques, grounding exercises, and journaling. Living with past trauma or chronic stress isn't easy, and these memories can serve as painful reminders of what we've gone through in the past or are currently experiencing.
Trauma can disrupt our physiological functions, contributing to health issues such as heart disease, immune disorders, depression, and PTSD. Individuals facing chronic stress may also become isolated and lonely.
So, what is chronic stress? It occurs when our bodies perceive everyday stressors as threats, triggering the stress response.
Many of us wonder how to heal from this situation. We can start by using coping skills, eating healthier, seeking group support, practicing self-care, and incorporating mindfulness into our lives. Journaling about our feelings can also help us understand and address them.
Here are some tips for improving your memory:
1. **Establish a Routine**: Having a routine for where you place items like keys, cell phones, and sunglasses can prevent loss. Keeping things organized helps you find them easily.
2. **Disrupt Old Habits**: Occasionally go against your established routines to keep things fresh. However, try to keep your routines simple.
3. **Eat Brain-Healthy Foods**: Incorporate healthier foods that support brain function into your diet. Some examples include green tea, salmon, broccoli, and dark chocolate.
4. **Get Enough Sleep**: Sleep is crucial for both mind and body. During sleep, we reprogram our bodies to manage tension, stress, and other harmful factors.
5. **Exercise Regularly**: Staying physically active promotes overall health and enhances brain function by improving blood circulation.
Finally, consider the habits you try to implement in your life to help suppress negative memories.

When past memories come back to me,
I can feel triggered.
Vulnerable.
Scared.
Stuck .
Like all the progress I've made is wasted.
Sad .
Apprehensive .
Like I'm transported back to that time!

How do you feel when past or present memories come back to you?
I do regularly memory training online but also try to recall in the evening what I did in the last days. Some of my past memories are not good so I tell myself "It's over, all is well now."

What are some ways you can improve your memory?
for us due to the physical things we have not much we can do to improve memory but we do take cq 10 as that we been told can help a lot
How do you feel when past or present memories come back to you?
we feel when past memories come up that it time to met them head on as they not come up for no reason we feel they come up due to it time to work on healing from past trauma many have asked why we can talk about our childhood abuse and it not bother us well it due to we healed from a lot of it but we also believe things come up in layers so as we face one layer another' come up we face that layer heal from it another layer come up so for us it facing each one that come up so can heal from that layer yes healing hard work but worth it too
I can improve my memory by journaling things down.
When past memories come back to me I feel upset.

I don’t do any exercise to improve my memory…but it would be good to start
All of a sudden, bad memories come back, making me feel sadness or shame for a second or two - it’s very uncomfortable and I try to bring myself to the present moment… but I also wonder if they are unresolved trauma and I should pay attention to them ✨
