how 4-7-8 breathing can help in mindfulness
Monday September 9th to September 11th 2024
Over the weekend one of my dear friends who is like a mom to me had an anxiety attack , while in the attack I used the 4-7-8 breathing to help her out of the attack. She said by me walking her through it that it helped her and she is already doing mindfulness so she include this in her daily routine and when an attack may happen again.
I decided to use this method as our check in for this week:
the 4-7-8 breathing is a deep relaxation. When we use this method it helps us with managing stress and anxiety by controlling how we breath. It is when we breath in and count to four, We hold it for seven seconds and release through our nose for the count of eight.

The benefits when doing this helps us:
reduce stress and anxiety : controlled breathing will help use reduce both of these
help our sleep at night : doing this breathing 20 minutes before bed time helps us sleep soundly through the night
reduces stress levels : slows our heart rate and lower blood pressure
improve motor memory : it showed a study that 16 people participated in and did 30 minutes of a session to improve our memory
the benefits of deep breathing:

Have any of you all used this method and if so how did you feel afterwards?
When you become different in your daily task does your breathing get faster ?

@pamharley003 I have never used this method but it sounds quite interesting and I will definitely try to implement this when needed. Thank you so much for sharing! 💓

Awesome technique! I'm trying to apply mindfulness to my daily routine and its been amazing so far😊💚
@pamharley003
I love breathing exercises! I use 4-6-8 cuz I don't like odd numbers haha and it works pretty well!
the 8 is always the hardest part for me
exhaling for a Loooonnnnnng time
I could try exhaling slower to make it last for 8
I could try exhaling "more" to squeeze out the last bit of oxygen using my diaphragm muscles
I could try just sitting there and counting the extra counts once the air is already gone until it gets to 8 (like a pause before inhaling again)
any other suggestions?

I've tried a number of different breathing techniques to find out which one is the best for me.

@pamharley003 I have tried this breathing technique and many others, similar ones. I can do it as long as I'm calm enough, like if I catch the panic early. But I'm full panic, its sooooo hard. But thankyou for this post ❤❤ I hope your friend/mother figure is ok now? Thank God you were there with her ❤❤gives you a giant tiny hug ❤
