Building deeper connections
Many of us feel a higher degree of loneliness and disconnection these days where we face challenges in many ways from the outside.![]()
So how do you feel more connected? Do you believe that by stepping up the quality of your conversation with others, the right kind of conversation you can build closeness and intimacy that doesn't require face-to-face interactions?

@amiablePeace77
I feel connected when I talk with someone a lot and I enjoy their company and they make me happy.
I believe that by stepping up the quality of your conversation with others, the right kind of conversation you can build closeness and intimacy that doesn't require face-to-face interactions. Because even when someone text me again by asking how are you doing, it can make me feel good. It makes me feel better as someone remember me and they care. I am not great in making conversations but still I love to talk with everyone whoever needs me ❤
@LovetoGod
I wish you will have many joyful conversations in future
. I can relate to being asked by someone about how you are doing. As human we need to feel some sort of togetherness and caring to function well and even the smallest honest "How are you" just feels good.
@LovetoGod
Hope you are doing good. Yes, there can be a connection or a feeling of being connected without the need of face to face interactions. Glad to hear that. May you have more happy conversations :)
@alphav7
I am doing great. Hope you are doing good as well. And I agree with you. And thanks. I hope same for you. I hope you meet lots of lovely people and have wonderful conversations with them. Have a wonderful day ❤
Thank you @amiablePeace77, for bringing this topic.
Post-COVID, it has become quite hard to stay connected. Another fact is that digital connections can never replace face to face or real connections. But, at the same time, it's not wise to insist on having a face to face physical conversation.
In these circumstances, I feel more connected on a video or a phone call. Text messages/emails are Okay but they lack the nuances of a face to face spontaneous conversation.
@alphav7
I hear you alphav7, safety comes first. Right now it's important to find other ways to stay connected than meeting each other. Video calls are great, at least we can see the other person, see their expressions in reality not just an emoji. I'm thankful for having zoom, skype and face time.
@amiablePeace77
Totally, Ami. Today there's a lot of things that can help us there.
Hi ami, I am so sorry that you were feeling very bad. I wish I could reach you and try to do something to help you feel better. I hope that some of the ways that you do your own personal self-care and self-soothing things will be helpful enough for you. If you need other things, I hope that you can get them. I send you all kind of love, kindness, caring thoughts, and lots of concern. Please know I am here for you anytime.
@Amelia2324
Aww, that's so sweet of you, thank you
. My skin condition is slowly improving, self care helps and hey your best wishes too ![]()
I'm glad that your sking condition is doing a bit better ami.
Love this saying, very true and I believe this wholeheartedly!
Thanks for reminding us of the important things in life that we often take for granted.
AmiablePeace: I know it may seem like I give you all a hard time, Sorry if it appears that way. I admire you and Soul so much. Thanks you both for hanging in here with all of us for so long. Watching us fall and get up and you keep encouraging us to get up and venture out.
@scarletPear1945
Hey there
, you're not giving me a hard time. Look, we all fall but hopefully we all stand up again and if I see someone falling ,and I'm sure soul too, we are happy to run as fast as we can to catch you
. This is what it means to be here for you and that's what we both want from our hearts.
I am actually a lot better at face-to-face conversations than online conversations. I think it has to do with the fact that I can't see the other person, and that makes me more anxious because I can't tell from their expression what they may be thinking. It's interesting because I see a lot of people say that online interactions are easier.
I don't think I'm a very good conversationalist in general, but I do try my hardest. I am at least WAY better than I was in high school and even college. I am better at starting conversations rather than waiting for the other person to start them.
To answer your question, I think that sometimes you don't have to say a whole lot of things to feel connected to someone, even when it's online. Quick words of encouragement, sharing pictures and videos with friends, emojis, etc. are all small ways of communicating that can be comforting to others.
@cafedaydreams
I hear you, online texting conversations lack the presence of facial expressions which can give a lot of information.
Words of encouragement can build instantly a deeper connection or as you mentioned just sharing something personal like pictures.
Nice that you improved your conversation starting skills 👍
@cafedaydreams
So true. Some small gestures like smilies, images and some quotes can help people connect easily.
@amiablePeace77 having deep connections with people has been something i've struggled with my whole life and it's always been hard for me to let people in and to be upfront and intimate with others, but i have made a significant improvement compared to when i was younger. but because of that, covid never really felt like a big deal to me in terms of isolation and not seeing people or talking much because i was already pretty used to it (although that's not something to really be proud of or brag about i realize since we all need human connection in some way which i had been lacking) but i do truly believe that stepping up the quality of your interactions whether or not it's face-to-face pays off greatly!! you can become closer by being there for them, listening, trying to speak with them often and spend time with them. any relationship can be built upon with time and effort :)
@mobteru
I believe for the people being used to get out this covid situation is much more difficult than for people living a less social active life but at the end we all need some sort of contact.
@mobteru
You're right in acknowledging the fact that quality interactions are a key to better relations and general happiness. And it's also as you said - small gestures matter.
@alphav7 that's very true, i'm happy you agree :)
I read somewhere that loneliness is the feeling of lack of communication. So I opened a twitter account to anonymously share my communications/thoughts/learnings/teachings/what I'm doing that works for me in a positive way to alleviate loneliness! 3 years later, I'm still trying to date, still looking for my life partner, but I don't feel lonely. I didn't make any new friends on twitter actually, just the act of communicating tells my brain that I'm not lonely, I'm saying what I need to say and hopefully it helps someone! Of course, I post positive things that hopefully help people in some way too, so I suspect that is "teaching". About life and about me and about what works and sometimes, what doesn't.
I think especially with COVID it made it harder to be able to physically be with my friends which was really hard. Even with that I could still communicate through my phone either by text or phone or Snapchat and it really helped me not feel like I was all alone.
@Strawberrylemon89
Using phone, texting or Snapchat are very helpful means these days and something to be grateful for.
@Strawberrylemon89
Great to know that you could leverage technology to get over the obstructions in communication.
Good Morning to everyone.
A new day and a new opportunity to brighten someone's day, or just to say Hey.
Thanks for a brand new day.
Sending Love, Light
@scarletPear1945 Hi there. Thank you and a good day to you too
.
@amiablePeace77 I would say, yes.
Words do have that power. If it didn't, then what even are we doing on this site.
But not just any words. Words that make us feel vibrant. Those words can form immediate vibes and hence, deeper connections.
