Mindfulness Check-in Sept 15

Today I want to discuss an article I read and thought you might also find it informative.

Do you know mindfulness practice can reduce pain?

The article stated as per a recent study by NIH, mindfulness meditation can relieve chronic pain better than regular treatments. An effective way to alleviate chronic pain.

As per the study, a brain region known as the posterior cingulate cortex seems to be active when you feel more pain. While mindfulness practice deactivates this region and that is why one experiences less pain.

So, it is one of the benefits I learned about mindfulness practice today.

Isn't it amazing?

@ASilentObserver

HIya baby Obssmileythank you for this great check in. I didn't at first think that chronic pain and mindfulness go hand in handsurpriseI just popped a pill or a pain patch-or moan. No joke. But recently when I injured my lower spine I got tired of the bad affects the pain medications were doing to me. Creams and heat/cold just were not working for a long period of time. So I went on here from my phone and looked up some discussions and some mindfulness exercises such as grounding and distractions. Boy does it help alot.

I do not suffer from chronic pain, but I do have injuries to my back where the pain is worse then giving birthsurpriseBut with mindfulness skills it doesn't take away the pain. But more so distracts my mind from the intensity and makes it bearable.

yesThumbs up on this Obssmiley

@ASilentObserver as a non professional it makes sense to me that when we learn to focus and redirect our attention, that we will be much more able to manage pain effectively by using this skill in this way. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Obs, thanks for these interesting information. It's amazing how we can influence our own well-being by getting the required tools and using them. Some time ago I read a similar research work about Buddhist monks, how they can influence their response to cold as ex.

Hiya Pear good to see you todaysmileyToday is what we should aim in our thoughts. Being mindful isn't hard, but sometimes it can be cause we are thinking BIG for mindfulness or to being perfect. Pear even if you are sitting and eating an apple. If you focus on what the apple tastes like, how it feels, does it fill your tummy. See- there is being mindfulsmiley

You can do mindfulness at any time. No one is keeping track. Ssshhhh sometimes I don't practice mindfulness eithersurpriseDon't tell no one ok
