Mindfulness Daily Check In April 25, 2018
"Oh my goodness-I forgot to do that!"
Hi all you out there today
Let's all take a deep breath in and a big stretch-ahhh
How many of you forget to practice mindfulness?
How many run late or just are to busy?
How many "overbook" your daily activities so mindfulness practices are hard to get done?
I want to say to all of you-IT'S OK
There is room for change and increase our awareness of this issue many of us may have. No sense in beating ourselves silly and making promises of change and get stressed. Let's see a few things here
1. Mindfulness takes ongoing effort- Mindfulness takes a lot of work, but the good news is that the longer you practice, the easier it gets, and the more joyful your life becomes.
2. There will always be distractions- When you're on your journey to becoming more mindful, it seems as if the universe starts throwing stuff at you just to give you challenges. The distractions could be problems in your life, relationship issues or self conflicts, old negative beliefs popping up from your past. They are there to help you grow and to realize who you truly are.These are great opportunities to practice present moment awareness. They will help you become stronger, better, and more in tune with yourself. The problems and challenges we face are teachers in disguise.
3. Progress doesnt always come quickly-
Progress may seem excruciatingly slow. There will be times when you attach to things and situations that you want, which will make it difficult to be fully in the present moment. Its impossible to be mindful when youre dwelling on the past or obsessing about the future. We all do those things sometimes. Ive experienced it countless times in my own life. The more I want something, the more I fixate on not having it and wanting to get it. Once I release the attachment and focus on being grateful for what I have in the moment, my life seems to shift, and progress seems to happen naturally.
4. You may want to give up- Like with any worthwhile journey, you will feel like giving up and throwing in the towel multiple times. But it is during the times when you feel most frustrated that you are often on the verge of a breakthrough. Our lives are very similar to the seasons. We go through cold, dark winters, and joyful, expanding summers. It all comes and goes. Its the ebb and flow of life. When you realize that the challenging times are there to help you grow, you will automatically feel more peaceful and relaxed.
So- I know this is a lot, but breathe
And let yourself know it is ok to forget doing mindfulness today or tomorrow or the next. Let's think on ways we can help each other practice mindfulness daily.......

Something that I heard from a teacher of mindfulness once was the idea, "progress with mindfulness is cumulative, not linear." You'll improve with practice over time while still having those off days where you struggle throughout. I think that's likely true.
@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi RSS! I have always found it difficult to allow myself the time needed to do some mindful meditation. I couldn't calm my mind enough and it was frustrating. I've now moved my mindful meditation to right before bed. It has been helping me relax and fall asleep quicker. I'm also feeling an overall sense of calm since I started doing this. It feels nice. Great post.
@yzzil
Yzzil hia good you are here
I am glad to hear that you found a time that helps you get full benefits from doing mindfulness. Bed time is a great time to ease our busy brain and get comfy and relaxed for a good nights rest. Also mindfulness isn't just on closing your eyes, sitting up or laying down and deep breathing. Those are all the foundations tho. You can do mindfulness while eating, brushing teeth, going for a walk. I really am glad you found what is working for you
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Handy dandy post!
Takes time to make something - including mindfulness - to work as though it's innate. But when you are so comfortable with it, you just slip into it -- and surprise yourself -- it's sooooo rewarding!
Working with a community allows so many takes on an aspect -- and with mindfulness, its cool to see how others might view a processes (meditation, body scan, etc) and open your eyes to something new or help crush a road block in your progress.
:::tumbleweed mode engaged::: Can't remember where I was going with this.... but great post
@diplomaticconfucious
(I thought of this when I read ur post)
Hello great to see you

Yes I like what you shared on taking time on learning mindfulness. It does take some practicing and getting used to and forming a daily routine.-also rewarding it is!! I too love seeing what others share here on things they do with mindfulness. And also how it affects their lives in a good way.
Ha you are awesome

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi Rumple! <3 How are you? :) I hope you are having a wonderful week so far! This is such a great post! Sometimes, many feel so pressured by so many things to do and might categorize practicing mindfulness in that as well, which causes more stress and pressure. It is a great reminder that it is okay if a person cannot practice mindfulness as often as they like or everyday as it should be natural and easy for them, and not in any way difficult or stressful. :)
@SaimaK
HIya there Saima nice seeing you
I am feeling content right now. As I helped out someone today by doing some things for them. What a wonderful feeling to mindfully think of others
I'm glad you picked up on that. We are not perfect even tho we have some tough routines daily. If we mess up just notice that, see what got in the way. But never take it out on yourself-as yes we do a lot. I want everyone who comes here to feel mindfulness isn't a hit right on or your kicked out. But to know mindfulness is just another tool to place in our lives to help us along.
@RumpleSteeleSkin It's nice seeing you too! :) I am glad that you are feeling content and was able to help someone out today! That is so great! <3 You are so right, and I think you did such a great job on explaining that in your post. Mindfulness is a wonderful tool to help as feel better when we have the ability to fully and easily take time to immerse ourself in it in some way, but it is nothing that we should pressure ourselves to do or stress about. :) <3
@RumpleSteeleSkin thanks for this wonderful checkin.
I think we need to reinforce each other and playfully remind each other of mindfulness. Maintaining a spirit of play is very important in my opinion.
@soulsings
hia Souls good to see you
Yes and yes play time

@RumpleSteeleSkin hahaha yes playtime
Had a very mindful day today and my therapist that I like actually talked to me a bunch and made me in a happy mood and haven't felt this happy in a long time. Of course my PCP MD dropped that mood down at 1pm today.
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I found this a very helpful post particularly the reference to "frustrated you are often on the verge of a breakthrough". This is a positive way of seeing another possible side of the outcome of frustration namely the encouragement to accept and continue (positive resolution).
I am trying to be very mindful with my feelings and listen. Practise is the key.
