happy new year GIF by T Toys

As we proceed through the intensity of merry-making, gift-giving, and gift-returning, one more holiday tradition will remain: pondering those pesky New Years Resolutions. Its probably fitting that after a season of indulgence we resolve to change our habits in the new year. Lose ten pounds! Exercise 5 times a week! Save more money! No more ugly sweaters! Control our mental health, family solutions!!

Several years ago I was having such a rough time on "what do I change for the next year?" I was getting stressed and it set of my depression badlysadBut a good friend sent me this in the mail, and I really to know this by heart. Just have not yet followed the steps all the way.surpriseBut it's a work in progress

1.Intention shapes our thoughts and words. 2.Thoughts and words mold our actions. 3. Thoughts, words, and actions shape our behaviors. 4. Behaviors sculpt our bodily expressions. 5. Bodily expressions fashion our character. 6. Our character hardens into what we look like.

There's simply so much truth to this. However most of the time we live without intentionality, and that's when we look back many years later and say, "Where did it all go?" It's time to live as if it mattered.

So, how can we bring in 2018 more mindfully and have realistic goals and change????

1. Making a vision board- By making this vision board you can visually see what you are working towards. You can keep track of progress or even some things that may need a bit more working on. This doesn't mean to show you were you lack in things, but keep whatever goals, plans or changes "in sight" so you are on track

2. Plan of action! Wow this is so empowering. If you can plan ahead of "what" you need to do in order to successfully accomplish what you like to change or start new. This is very important as then you are not stressing, but being mindful of things to do

3. Communicate. Yes share on what you want to do in this new year!! Share it proudly. This enables many of your friends or loved ones to support, encourage and even remind you to do some self care.

4. Mindfulness daily exercises. Please start the new year with something small that you can do mindfully. Take a walk but notice things around you, take a bath/shower. Notice the water and how you are feeling,cook/bake something you enjoy or even the regular dinner cooking. Notice the smells, or cutting things up. Anything you do in your day you can do mindfully.smiley

These are some very powerful words. Our thoughts shape us and if we do not realize in time what is going on in our mind we can end up frustrated, depressive, bitter etc. we become a negative person. there are lots of people who only see the negative side and that makes them bitter, not wanting others to be happy. my goal is to become kinder to myself and others, particularly the ones i am not comfortable with (does not mean that i leave my guards completely down) just trying to become a better person.

HI Peace good to see you todaysmileyYou are very right that our thoughts do shape how we think and go about things in life. As well as some people only seeing the "bad" side of us and not our good to.I like your goal to be kinder to you and others, even some you don't enjoy much. Also boundaries or your guard are there to protect you from many things. No need to lesson them or put them away around people you are not to sure about. I say you have some good goals and keep up the goof work on being mindful to you firstsmileyheart

HIya Silent great to see you todaysmiley It is good to check in with ourselves on our goals but also not letting the New Years "thing" get us frustrated or we fall backwards. Goals can be made daily set for 1 week to a five year goal. I hope this does help many here!!

@RumpleSteeleSkin I like what a friend decided to do: make a goal and intention and fill in the details as they go. Then they can still be aiming for a goal and being in the present moment

HI Souls good to see yousmiley Yes goal setting can trully be a stressful scary thing to do. But really if we make things a big smaller, and break things down many can accomplish their goalssmiley

@RumpleSteeleSkin goal setting can be scary but it can be as simple as what am I going to try different or what am I going to change. Setting unreasonable goals dooms them to failure. Simple doable goals are better.
