As soon as the Halloween costumes have been tucked away, and the candy is disappearing, suddenly we realize that the holidays are coming FAST. Thoughts of presents, turkeys, cards, relatives, parties, and shopping begin to dizzyingly swirl in our heads. And so the holiday rush begins, and we often find ourselves becoming champion multitaskers.

But in the rush to get everything accomplished, we often lose our connection with the present moment. How we feel, what were thinking. We become so future-focused that we sometimes miss out on the little things that make life beautiful as it is. A compliment from a stranger, a warm smile from a child, a beautiful sunset.

I know- we have been talking a lot of this lately. But really it is important to you and me! We still deserve to get the full happiness and fun and peace around the holidays as much as we can. We can prevent some of this too. So, today if you like share on some things you do to make sure you are not "trampled on" in all this holiday rush rush stuff going on.

Oh- and please take that extra cup of coffe and enjoyheart

@RumpleSteeleSkin that picture looks like black Friday at the toy stores!

I think we need to move to the pace of our breathing. That will slow us down a bit.

@RumpleSteeleSkin

I think it's is very important this time of year to slow down. We seem to impose expectations on ourselves - find the perfect gift, make the perfect meal, have a perfectly clean home, have the family behave perfectly, attend every social offering, out decorate whomever is the over the top decorator is and just in general kill ourselves with unreal expectations from ourselves or what think others have set for us.

Firstly - surrender the desire for perfection. I know it is harder for some than others. Something drives you to strive for that perfection but this is where you need to let mindful practice work. Pause - assess without judgement - address your next step - and let yourself know that not everything has to be perfect. Nevermind who will judge or you think is/will judge you - do your best and do yourself a favor and give yourself permission to be your best not perfect. Release the need, free yourself, and celebrate the imperfect being you are.

Secondly - know when to say no and that it's okay to skip events. You don't have to attend every single invite - you'll kill yourself. You'll wear yourself down, get sick, and then where will you be? Pick and choose and don't worry about hurt feelings of someone you said no to. If they get upset by your no to their invite that might be a cue to review that relationship and it's boundaries. Don't be guilted into doing, going, or being what you have no energy, interest, or desire to do. No is okay... no puts you first. It's okay to put yourself first, no reason for guilt - breathe, relax and appreciate your limits for coping during the holidays.

Thirdly, skip the hype of the season. Find your peace and live from there. Within your peace is where you will find your joy. When you have peace and joy within then you have a true gift to give others. Take your calmness and ask a friend to coffee and help them slow down from their frantic holiday to dos. Use your peace and joy to send genuine notes of gratitude, appreciation, and validation to friends and loved one - you might be amazed of this simple gestures impact and that it might be the best "gift" they get all season.

My thoughts have derailed... but remembering to not anchor yourself to the expectations and happiness of others is key this time of year. Pause, breathe, settle, sigh and reassure yourself it's all right to step back and let the crazy pass you by.

HI DiplomaticsmileyHa yes I am so with you on "slower" during the holidays. I recently went shopping for 18 teachers and aids my kids have in school. I ended having shortage on candy and other gifts. Also the frustration level on not knowing what they like and stuff. Ahhh I like how you shared for us to not focus so much on making sure things we do are perfect. Yes mindfulness does teach us not to judge and also be more in the monent. More so on mindfully accepting I say. I believe you shared some helpful tools to help others in this busy holiday season. Thank youheart

::::: hugs the big ellie :::::

That is very thoughtful of you to consider so many who have touched your children's lives.

I understand and sympathize on gifting such a large group. I used to have 20-30 volunteers who worked my office. I went to the thrift store and picked up each one a coffee mug (4 for $1 saved my day) went and got cocoa, teas, and peppermint canes. Each mug got one of each of those plus a hand written Christmas card full of individual thoughts, acknowledgements and appreciations.

Watching them open similar gifts was one thing - seeing them read the cards was the true gift - realizing someone noticed the small things, the generous gift of time and ability, and knowing that they helped make a difference in my day just by being there and doing their best best.

Don't underestimate the power of your words through appreciation, validation, and gratitude that can be tucked inside, mailed, or bestowed with a gift during this season of celebrations.

I don't remember where I was going with this... ha! My thoughts are wobbly today... take what you will and breathe- not all gifts come from a store.

I am trying really hard to be mindful but my thoughts are all over the place. I learned today I have cancer. I don't know how to tell people. I don't know how to tell my family. I don't know how to talk to my primary doctor when she told me I didn't when I ask her a few weeks ago when I asked her why a blood test was high another doctor took and he said today I do. My dad died of cancer and really scared right now and really don't know what to do or say or how to process anything.

I read your post and wanted to come and say hello and send you some strength and good wishes heart

I don't think there is ever a right time to share news like this, but I know that there are a lot of people over in Caregivers Support that have experience of this kind of situation and where it goes from here. Take care and if you want to chat I am here to listen.

We are here for you...

You don't have to process this news all at once. It's a shock and you are shocked - and there is no timeline that demands you keep it. You will move as you feel you should...take the actions you feels you should and speak when you feel it is time to.

You might also find support in the Disability Community too. There are a variety of topic there and some supportive folks as well.

Breathe...pause...and process. It is often in the pause we find the peace, answer or action we need.

We're here if you need us.

Hey there Snow good to see yousmiley oh dear hun-hugsheartTo learn you have cancer can bring on scary thoughts and much fear. I can say and understand on being lost for words to share this with some loved ones in your life. But.....I can tell you their love with be there for you. They are there for you and to guide you on this news. I do hope you can find some time to connect/ ground yourself first and check in and make sure you are feeling right for sharing. Cancer is very scary yes hun. I know that practicing a few mindfulness skills can't cure you, but mostly this can help guide you in the feelings, thoughts and racing thoughts you have due to this. Mindfulness acts like a "safe method" that you know you can go to when things get to intense. I am very sorry to hear your dad past away due to cancer. I know your fear on this is very valid hun. I looked up some mindfulness video's dealing with cancer. Please take a look at this when you can. Again some hugs for youheart
