Mindfulness Daily Check-In February 01
We've talked about Positive Affirmations in our recent Check-in of January 23. So, we learned positive affirmation is one of the way to practice mindfulness and clear negative thoughts.
Yes!! Believe or not, our thoughts have an impact on our lives especially how we feel about ourselves. And, our thoughts at time initiate a dialog in our mind with us i.e. Self-Talk. We all talk to ourselves throughout the day whether positively or negatively. Whatever happening in our lives keep going with a running chat with oneself. But, most of the time this self talk revolved around our negative thoughts. Our negative thoughts not only affect how we feel about oneself but also how we act. That's why all suggests to practice positive self talk so that it leads to more positive and inspired actions.
Changing the way we think will in turn change the way we act. Practicing self-talk positively is a nice way to deal with our negative thoughts. One of those ways are Positive Affirmations. So, let's discuss some other ways also to practice self talk in a better way.
I) Acknowledge and be aware of thoughts.
The first thing we need to do is acknowledge our thoughts. Its okay if we have negative thoughts. When we are aware of our thoughts, it allow us to practice self talk positively and effectively. One of the block is self talk a habitual behavior. Most of the time it runs without much explicit efforts. It keeps running in background and often they are negative ones. So acknowledging and being aware of them is essential to initiate better self talk.
II) Know "WHY" for your thoughts.
When you acknowledged that negative thoughts are occpied the mind. Try to give reason to your negative thoughts. Ask yourself "WHY"!! Why are you having such thoughts? Are you losing perspective of the situation?? Are there any positive aspects that you able to identify? Is there any benefit of running these negative thoughts NOW or LATER??
When you know about your thoughts and have reasoning behind it. It makes your brain to think proactively on positive aspects and transform the self talk positively.
III) Substitute Negative Phrases with Positive ones.
Mostly, negative thoughts involve negative statements. So when you acknoweldged and reasoned them, just convert it into a positive phrase. For example: "I can't do this." This is a negative thought most of the time come in our mind while doing a bit difficult act. Now, let's try to convert into a positive statement. Like, we could try to say ourselves, "If others can do this. Then I can do too. I'm going to take this challenge and give best of my efforts."
So, sometimes, we need to look for better statements and substitute them in place of former ones.
IV) Move to Rome.
If you're in Rome, do as Romans do. This is 100% true in self talk. When you are surrounded with toxic and negative people. You likely to dwell in negative self-talk. That's how they influence your brain and thoughts. Similarly, if you are surrounded by positive people, you can experience the transformation in your self-talk. So, move to Rome and surround yourself with people who radiate positive energy to take the challenge and give your best.
However, all this may not happen quickly. But if you follow them with determination to practice positive self-talk. You'll experience the improvements and how mindful you becoming. Self-talk is something we all do every day.
Life is like a Coin. It depends on person that which side they watching. To see other side, you always need to flip it.

@ASilentObserver yes I appreciate these reminders. I especially like being aware of our thoughts. That is so important. That is the difference for me being a person that is run by my thoughts and pounded by the waves of thoughts. With mindfulness I can ride the wave.!
@soulsings
Exactly soul. Agrer with your thoughts. Thank you for sharing your insights.
@ASilentObserver you are welcome. Thanks for all you share.
@ASilentObserver
I use self-talk for a long time when challenged, asking myself about the pro and cons, motivating myself. It is almost like mother talking to child, but it helps, it is triggering the survivor part in me. Self-affirmations are a good way to train our brains to believe more in the positive.
so, thanks Observer, for pointing out these important facts.
@amiablePeace77
