Mindfulness Daily Check-In June 14, 2019

Hello mindfulness community. How was this week for you? Was there anything particularly nice that happened or anything bad you would like to share?

Today I like to post a short story I recently read. Here it goes:
A student went to his meditation teacher and said, "My meditation is horrible! I feel so distracted, or my legs ache, or I'm constantly falling asleep. It's just horrible!"
"It will pass," the teacher said matter-of-factly.
A week later, the student came back to his teacher. "My meditation is wonderful! I feel so aware, so peaceful, so alive! It's just wonderful!'
"It will pass," the teacher replied matter-of-factly.
What do you think this story is trying to tell people?

@delightfulUnicorn38 lol
@amiablePeace77 thank you for this check in
I think it is sharing that yes great your feeling sad,happy, content etc...but this to will change. And how can mindfulness bring you back to the happy. Or more so just accepting how you feel
I think it means. . . nothing is forever. Ironically, I really need that lesson today.
I had a bad week (and again "it too will pass.")
@Rebekahwriter13
Hi Rebekah and extra hugs for the bad week, hope this one will be much better.
Life changes constantly and I believe it's good in this way because by this change the bad times pass and do not stay forever.
@amiablePeace77 i haven't had a geniune good/happy time in years.
@Rebekahwriter13
(sends Rebekah lot of hugs)
Rebekah, that's terrible. What is something you have done in the past which gave you a good time?
@amiablePeace77 I was living in a house with cats. Now I am so insecure about what place I am living in.
@Rebekahwriter13
HI hun good to see you. I agree with you on nothing lasting forever. I do hope the next few days can become better for you. hugs
@amiablePeace77
Happy Times wtill pass and so will the Bad times. Just roll with life
@Zulegirl
I like that saying "roll with life" because life has many colours.
I got a new potential client today but when I went for the meeting, the pool I was going to teach in was on the 25th floor so I opted out! I forgot to screen/ask durin gour back and forth emails before setting up the meeting...
The man I'm having a first date with moved it up to today so neither of us have to wait until tomorrow to meet! I'm so excited! I feel good that someone is that interested to actually change the time sooner! This has never happened in the last 2+ years of dating!
@onwardforevenmore
Onward, I am so happy for you, almost got exited myself
. That's awesome. Hope things went well.
It sucks when fear of heights interferes with life that much. 25th floor, that's more than 120 meters
. I really hope that one day it will not be a problem to you anymore.
@amiablePeace77 it's not the height, it's the elevators. I'm happy to climb to high places, but as an engineer, I know how often elevators fail and can feel every minute motion with overly sensitive ears! I also get seasick very quickly, so I don't like the feeling when the floor isn't level... (unless I'm outside!)
@onwardforevenmore
Ah, I see what you mean. Honestly I prefer the stairs too if manageable, gives me also more exercise.
Have you ever tried trigger point therapy (self-done) or wrist bands for sea sickness?
@amiablePeace77 yes... this and 2 other irrational fears (and food allergies I never had before but my mom and sister do!) developed/surfaced after I had a car accident in 2003! It was like the bodily trauma rebooted my system somehow... and left me in a strange state... It goes a little deeper than wristbands and dramamine... I'd love to figure it out somehow with someone sometime!
@onwardforevenmore
That sounds awful (HUGS). Getting to the root might give you some valuable information. Who do you think could help you best?
the only thing constant is change
@onwardforevenmore you are so right on that hun. And thing is-if change is hard for someone everything is harder. But all we can do is try
@amiablePeace77
The 'twist' about the happy state passing is, for me in this moment, the most insightful lesson for the story. Of course when bad things happen, or we feel bad, we want to believe it will pass. Yet, can we accept with dignity that our good days, too, may pass? What benefit could that possibly have?
The other day I had a great time. I felt happy, helpful, productive, curious, full of energy. Since I'd been very low energy for many days prior, it was refreshing and uplifting - and implicitly, I believed, "ah, now every day will be this good!" The next day, I didn't have the same level of energy; I had perhaps overdone it, and needed more rest. Yet, because of that "every day will be this energetic and good" automatic expectation, I didn't have a 'rest,' but instead became despondent and self-critical.
So, the lesson I am getting is to accept where I am without judgement; because once I expect things will always be one way or another I am setting myself up to 'suffer' needlessly. I am grateful you posted this because I didn't realize (this dimension of) what happened until I read that story. Thank you. :)
@calypteanna
Thanks for sharing this interesting post. Getting to accept where we are without judgement is one of the key elements to reduce suffering. I believe we can learn a lot from bad days, they teach us about our thoughts, about acceptance, patience, the difference between a good and a bad day to mention only a few.
@amiablePeace77
Today's new water exercise client is 98 years old! Woo hoo!
I got my new passport in the mail today! And as a digitalnomad, I only get mail once a month - today's was the best! Only a check to deposit and the new passport! YAY :)
