Life is often quite hectic due to busy schedules and numerous responsibilities, and so it seems like we can never get enough time to relax and be mindful. I know for a fact that many of us have much more to juggle than we can handle at times, and thus become quite overwhelmed and anxious often. School. Work. Family. Relationships. Household responsibilities. Bills. There is always something to worry about, and there is always something that takes up our time. As a result, we are unable to do more of what we enjoy or what is essential to our health, whether it is our mental health or physical health, and tend to view such positive things as extra stressors instead. However, we have to remind ourselves that mindfulness is to help us unwind, become centered, and be present. Mindfulness helps us clear our minds in order to be aware of our senses, surroundings, and more in order to gain a sense of peace and calm. It is not meant to be detrimental in any way. So how can we practice mindfulness despite our hectic day-to-day lives?

Well, there are actually numerous ways to practice mindfulness on a busy schedule:

yes Do One Thing At a Time: Focus on carrying out a single task at a time rather than multiple tasks. Do not try to complete any other tasks while doing something already. If you are eating, just eat. If you are walking, just walk. Focus solely on doing one thing at a time.

yes Eat Slowly and Savor Your Food: Instead of rushing through eating or using your phone while eating, focus on your food. Savor each and every bite. How does it taste? Do you like the smell? How does it make you feel? How about the texture? Eating slowly and savoring your meal can truly help you feel great.

yes Enjoy a Brain Dump: If there is too much on your mind, why not just write out all of your concerns and thoughts for the day on paper? Doing this will help release those worries from your mind and help you feel lighter as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

yes Tidy Up Your Space: Often times, a cluttered home and/or workspace have a negative effect on our minds. Decluttering may not be fun, but try to make it fun and enjoy it. View it as a meditative task that will help give your mind the space and ease that it needs to feel comfortable.

yes Empty Your Mind Through Menial Tasks: Cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, ironing, and more may not seem fun. However, these tasks can actually be quite meditative. Focusing on such simple tasks can help quiet down your mind and make you feel more relaxed. Doing them slowly with great concentration can help make a big difference in you feel throughout the day.

I would love to hear what everyone else thinks!

Wow all great ideas! Yeah I thought multitasking was helpful but it always slows me down. Bad idea. I will try one task at a time. Will be a hard adjustment as my teachers even in school told us to multitask but maybe they were joking i do not know.

@Chocolateandcakes Hi Chocolate! heart Thank you! Multi-tasking may seem great to get more done at once, but it is more detrimental than beneficial in the end. I truly hope that these ideas help you out! Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day! laugh

@SaimaK thanks for this post. I have been watching anger starting to arise. As I observe it it slinks away as I observe it and do not react to it. I guess this is a form of saying NO to anger. I feel it in my body but do not let it take hold.

Thanks for this reminder.

@soulsings Hi Soul! heart Thank you for sharing this with us all! Anger is a struggle to deal with as many stressors, events, and more trigger such a reaction out of this multiple times a day on a daily basis. I am glad that you observe and do not let it take hold! I hope you are able to continue to observe it and prevent it from taking hold. Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day! laughheart

enlightenedWhat is a simple mindful activity that you do every day?

I can use my Calm app and do 1 meditation a day at least!

enlightenedWhat do you think of these ways to be mindful?

These sound really helpful! I think I'll give them a try!!

enlightenedIs there anything that you would like to add or suggest?

Something else that really helps me when I feel mind full is to organize a little to-do list or schedule for the day. That really helps me stay on task!

@SaimaK

These are great ideas, thanks for all the work you put into this post.

enlightenedWhat is a simple mindful activity that you do every day? In the eve I just sit for a short while (w/o any music or other distruction) and let my thoughts pass to clear my mind.

enlightenedWhat do you think of these ways to be mindful? These are good suggestions, I like in particular doing one thing at a time, because I tend to do everything in one go which can result in a lot of stress.

@amiablePeace77 Hi Peace! heart Thank you so much! I really appreciate hearing that from you! smileyheart Taking out time once a day without any distractions in order to clear your mind is a great and simple way to practice mindfulness! I am glad that you like my suggestions! Multi-tasking certainly can result in a great deal of stress as our mind focuses on too much at once, thus causing you to feel anxious and overwhelmed quite quickly and easily. Doing one task at a time will help us feel more in control, less overwhelmed, and able to work efficiently. Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day! laugh

enlightenedWhat is a simple mindful activity that you do every day?

I try for every day... but washing dishes usually forces me to be more mindful - to be really in the moment since I like to be thorough when I wash them.

enlightenedWhat do you think of these ways to be mindful?

I really like them and will try to incoporate them more - plus it helps me to get more motivated about doing chores! XD I also tend to get distracted a lot, but I can practice doing one thing at a time. It'll probably make me a lot less stressed!

enlightenedIs there anything that you would like to add or suggest?

Listening to music usually helps me to stay calm and to focus more on the moment. Maybe that counts as doing two things at once (listening to music and doing chores) but at least for now it helps!

@Raindrops00 Hi Raindrops! heart Washing dishes is quite peacefl and does help us to be mindful indeed. Doing one thing at a time definitely would help lower your stress level, so I hope it helps you! However, if listening to music while doing chores helps, then that is perfect! You know what works for you best, and if that helps you, then I am very happy about that! smiley Take care and I hope you have a wonderful day! laughheart
