Ello everyone out there
/ wootwoot-yes I'm late but hey it's up
So what does everyone think when I say "thankful or Gratitude"? Is it a chore? Is it a right or wrong feeling? What and where do I start???
Breathe and please watch this:
How can we become more thankful and show more gratitude? How about starting with a Gratitude Journal? Wow what is that> A gratitude journal is a special book almost like a private diary. It's a place where you write in it daily about things you are thankful for, or something that had you smile. Someone who did a kind deed for you-things like that. This book we want to keep it for positive things only

There are so many ways to show graditude as well as feel thankful. Today I'd like you to share all the things just in today that you are thankful for
Big or small do share it all

@RumpleSteeleSkin Hi Rumple! :) How are you? I hope you are having a great day today! <3 I loved your post! A gratitude journal is an amazing idea, and I have been writing a gratitude journal for a few years now! I love to feel grateful and thankful, and love showing and sharing it as well! :D Today, I am thankful for being productive, experiencing great weather, eating food I love, sleeping and resting, working hard, having a supportive husband, amazing friends, and a loving family, and so much more! <3
@SaimaK
ello Saima-great your here
wow look at all those things you are thankful for
Yes it does bring a positive feeling when you are grateful/thankful for the littliest things in life!
@RumpleSteeleSkin Thank you, Rumple! <3 I completely agree! Life just feels better when you focus on the positives instead of the negatives, especially when things get difficult. :)
It's sometimes hard to feel thankful for me because of memories of the past creeping in and influencing me, or perhaps my mood is low and I recognize that studies regarding happiness show gratitude helps one feel happier, and so I feel I should practice it. In one way or another, it ends up feeling like a demand on me. In the past when I lived with my mother, holiday and birthday gifts were treated much like threats. I had to express approval and thank her for whatever I was given. Often, what I got for such events were things like socks and underwear. Very rarely did I get something special, like a toy I expressed interest in, for which I wouldn't be able to stop myself feeling and expressing genuine excitement and gratitude instinctively (i.e. like a child squealing with glee) or a heartfelt gift that was chosen/ made by the give with a lot of personal meaning behind it (for which an emotional response would be practically unstoppable). There was an implicit threat to not say anything that even hinted at dissatisfaction, disappointment, or disapproval or else the behaviour I received from my mother in response would be something like...
"Be grateful I got you anything! Don't like it? Fine, I'll give it to some other, less selfish child who doesn't have anything. They'll actually appreciate it!" And the item would be taken from my hands and I wouldn't be able to have it back, no matter how much I said I was sorry or cried (sincere tears, asI was a child at the time and hadn't yet learned "the rules" about how to respond to gifts when it came to mom).
So gratitude became a compulsory demand. It didn't matter how I actually felt. In order to not be punished, I needed to say I approved and thank her, no matter what. Not only that, but I needed to keep the items. They were not mine to control. My room was filled with items that weren't mine to do with as I wish. If I wanted to get rid of it, I had to keep it because it meant something to my mother. And if I still didn't want to keep it, she'd keep it for herself, which meant it would just be placed in another part of the house. It didn't matter if it was from her or someone else. I was told I was rude and selfish and cold-hearted for rejecting the gift years and years after it had been given to me. The clothes I wore were chosen for me. I had to enjoy wearing them or I'd be called ungrateful - punished once again, for not giving my mother what she wanted.
It's been hard re-establishing a genuine sense of gratitude for things in my life because I genuinely feel thankful for them - to not only acknowledge that I had good things in my life but that this would influence my emotions in some way. It's hard to undo the influence and programming I was forced to accept. It's hard to feel gratitude when one is depressed or when one is anxious that expressing one's thoughts and feelings will result in some form of punishment.
The progress is slow, but I'm beginning to have moments where I feel the gratitude influence my mood - that the expression of gratitude feels as if it's coming from me with minimal obstruction from the past, influencing it to where it feels like an external demand.
@Zeraphim
I feel like we're related.
@Zeraphim
firstly...

I know our past stuff really impacts how we percieve or show gratefulness to another. I wanted to add this in here, but didn't know how as I wanted everyone to feel validated on how they felt on this. Im sorry to hear that showing this feels demanding-it shouldn't ever. But be an "action" coming from the heart. oh dear hun- gifts should of never been connected to threats at all but be given outta love or care. I as a parent do want my own kids to show gratefulness when they get something from others. I think it's a learned skill tho how we teach that in our kids. They need to see it-before actually doing it themselves. awww wish I could give you a hug
My words to you are and please don't forget them....
Zera I don't know you personally just what you share here. I don't know weather male or female or things Like that. I dont even know if you like hugs or not. But what I do know is you are you, you are supportive in rooms, you care for others, you have humor and not rude. I am thankful for you here. That is it, nothing fake or attached. Please if you can, grab hold of the goodness others give you. Hold onto those gifts others give you and only want to see you smile. Try and replace them with the past awful memories. And know here in this area you have to only be you, nothing else. hugz

I was trying to be very mindful today and was looking on the web for things to read and found this site.

@RumpleSteeleSkin thank you soooo much for posting this message on gratitude!
Hey Rumple!! I have been starting this gratitude journal and I find it really useful to note down my thoughts, how I'm feeling, things I am grateful for. The Appreciation and Gratitude subcommunity has also helped me lots with daily reminders and I enjoy posting lots in those forums :)
Sometimes I feel like we may be forced to be appreciate things, but I believe it should come naturally and we should genuinely be thankful instead of writing down 10 meaningless random things we can think of <3
So today I am grateful for waking up nice and early and sleeping well, as I am ready to start the day. I am also thankful for having a late start so I can do my work in the morning and I feel relaxed.
@peppermintlove
Hey there Peppermint wonderful to see you
Nice to hear that writing on gratefulness and gratitude is helping you-and yes the SC here is GREAT!!! I do know on the "fake" part on this. idk really how to share tho. hmmm ok a bit on me....Tons of trauma in my life it was. But I was thankful at 6years old to be put in a good home. There I was shown fun,love,clean home,cloths and even lots of toys, but mostly parents who genuinely had love for me. There they shown me on thankfulness. Growing up I was thankful for the littleliest things-a used coat or shoes.
I hope this helps as yes even showing and feeling gratitude is a learned thing. Wootwoot on the late starts! I get up at 4:10am during the week. On weekends I feel guilty sleeping till 6am but grateful for those extra hours
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Aww Rumple lots of hugs <3 You're a wonderful person and everything you do for 7 cups is absolutely amazing. You should be extremely proud of how far you've come because you are amazing. Your story teaches us how thankfulness can be learnt and we can grow to appreciate things from our personal experiences.
HANG ON - 4:10 AM DID I JUST READ THAT CORRECTLY?! That is absolutely ridiculous. I sure hope you go to sleep nice and early!!
Take care Rumple, always lovely to see your check-ins

@RumpleSteeleSkin
Much like @Zeraphim -- "You'll say thank you even if you don't like it" was the order of the family. The guilt move - "there are less fortunate people in this world".
Robotic-like gratitude/thanks is kind of the thing in the South. Someone refills your beverage, it's an automatic Thank You, a smile, a nod and back to your meal. Someone holds the door - a thank you, a smile, a nod and you go in and go about your biz. A car stops for you - you smile, wave or nod and cross the road.
Really, truly, experiencing gratitude -- that truly honest thankfulness that embraces you inside -- are few and far between for me - if ever. I don't know if it's just jadedness on my part or I feel it rarely occurs or it just passes without notice or may I just really don't know what it is. idk
I can appreciate things that happen in my day or of benefit -- but I'm not sure I'm truly grateful for them.
I guess I don't quite get it.
@diplomaticconfucious
HI Diplomatic good to see you today
I do understand you a lot on the "robotic response" on showing thankfulness or gratitude. But I always was told "fake it to you make it" cause one time someone out of the blue is gonna come along and help you at the last minute that makes a huge impact on you. There you will learn and feel gratitude. No matter on what level here, you show kindness and thankfulness I see on your sharings. I just wanna share-one day you will feel that full gratefulness within you-honest
You are doing fine![]()

@RumpleSteeleSkin
Thanks Rumple....
It's a learning process... its a growing process... it's a construction process....
So I am very much ...
UNDER CONSTRUCTION
@RumpleSteeleSkin
what i am grateful for, hmm, many many things, one of the most important is HOPE, hope to be able to learn to see things differently, to act differently, to become one
it is true, gratitude increase happiness and life satisfaction and on the other side decreases negative thinking.
