Non-Judgment
Hey, everyone!
Lets explore a mindfulness attribute called Non-Judgment. You might have previously heard of this term during a mindfulness discussion/forum post or maybe not, so lets take a minute to read a brief summary about practicing non-judgment in the present moment.
When we become aware of our thoughts, we notice that we have ideas and opinions regarding almost everything: This is good; this is bad. I want this; I dont want that. I like this; I dont like that. This is called judging. When we become aware of these thoughts and our judging, we must try to not judge that we are judging. This is tricky but doable.
A key is to recognize that we are judging and that our judgments are often in black and white. They are often set in stone. Once we recognize this judging, we can understand that we are looking at things, people, and situations through the lenses of our own opinions, and this type of thinking can prevent us from experiencing novelty in the present moment.
Through recognizing judging and acknowledging that we judge, we can navigate through the judging so that it doesnt dominate our thoughts. We can decrease its occurrence.
Question:
1.) How can you practice non-judgment today?

Amazing post Emu. <3 Loved it.
You are right, non-judgment is one of the aspect of being mindful. Probably we could practice it by accepting others's opinions and respect that view and try to view that angle as well.
It won't be bad because it will let us know the other side as well and may improve our knowledge about anything or something.
In brief, to practice to non-judgment, accept other thoughts without filters.
Curious to hear our fellow member's thoughts on this. <3
@ASilentObserver
Thank you for checking-in today ❤️
I definitely agree that we can practice non-judgment by being open to others lives, whether those are opinions, lifestyles, traditions, or cultures. I think thats a really great point. 😊 Like you said, when we do this, we have the opportunity to learn something new in the present moment rather than shutting out new experiences.
@EmunahHere
Hi Emunah great check in today
You must have had an ear in my home last night on judging others and how it rips apart another person as well as you lose out in getting to know that person. ![]()
How can you practice non-judgment today?
To slow my thoughts down, to try and show more understanding and empathy
@RumpleSteeleSkin
Hey, Rumple; thank you for checking-in today ❤️
Showing empathy and understanding is a great way to practice non-judgment 😊 I need to practice this as well! It
@EmunahHere
Thanks Emunah I do so agree with you that its easier said then done. But I feel (and this just isn't for 7cups) that it doesn't hurt to practice it once in awhile, then it just comes natual. I too- forget about empathy to people. But when I am on 7cups I get the reminder as soon as I tackle all my pm. I also don't go by "treat people like you want to be treated" as some people don't know what empathy feels like or to be validated. So I just practice and practice and value that feeling I get from others.
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I agree with the power of practicing! I think you also have an interesting perspective on the saying treat others the way you want to be treated. You are right in that there are people who dont know what it feels like to be validated, so youve made me reconsider what this phrase means to me 😊
For me right now, I am having trouble judging myself by what I eat or do not eat, ect...ED stuff.
I can practice non - judgment by eating one food without labeling it as good or bad or morally attatching a label to it.
@blissedNblessed
Thank you for checking-in and for sharing what you are struggling with today ❤️
Choosing to not assign a good or bad label to foods and other experiences is a great way to practice non-judgment. Hugs to you, blissedNblessed ❤️
@EmunahHere
HUGS right back <3
Thank you
@EmunahHere lovely thread
You asked "1.) How can you practice
@soulsings
I like the idea of not have expectations for when we see someone, go somewhere, or do something. This is hard for me sometimes and something I need to work on. I feel like when we bring judgments like, this is going to be hard or this isnt going to go well it hinders what we can experience and puts us in the mindset that something isnt going to go well. I notice that my mood can be changed by this.
Great point too about stress. Stress tends to make practicing mindfulness in general tough 😊
@EmunahHere yes I agree. Expectations are like sunglasses. If we keep them on they make everything a little darker. Take off the sunglasses and things are not as bad or as great as we assume they are.
It reminds me of this story of good fortune and misfortune and not reacting to either. https://www.rainbowbody.com/newarticles/farmerson.htm
