Q: What does it mean to practice radical acceptance?
A: Talk to family or other supportive people.

"Go to a self-help recovery meeting and share your cravings."
@ThankYouForLettingMeTryingToHelp
I agree. Acknowledging reality for what it is at that moment can be overwhelming so support is truly most helpful.
@amiablePeace77

"Get help with motivation when it is low."
@amiablePeace77 Hi Peace!!
Thanks for the check-in. I definitely need to check in with myself because I haven't been doing my mindfulness lately and feel frazzled. Hope to get back to it soon.
I'm actually not familiar with radical acceptance although I have heard of it. I looked it up on a few psychology websites and it seems to mean accepting reality as it is. To me mindfulness meditation helps with this - being in the present, facing reality, having thoughts, but letting them pass.
@fearlessWriter78
Glad to hear that mindfulness meditation helps you. Whatever challenge reality is presenting, mindfulness meditation allows me too to calm and get balanced again. The letting go part definitively need practise, it's the most challenging part but also the most important part in my opinion.
@amiablePeace77
Please, what does "radical acceptance" mean?🙄
@Unknown
It simply means that you are acknowledging reality and not trying to surpress parts of it you do not want to see or fight it in any other way.
@amiablePeace77
Yes, like embracing it...
Thank you😶
@amiablePeace77 WOOOOOW!!!
Ami this is great-just have not had any coffee to get my brain thinking-it is my day off. And we are dealing with another busted pipe so water is off till plummers come this morning.
Anywho- radical acceptance is a very hard thing to gather and acheive at times. It means you have to really push all your feelings and junk aside-dig so deep and ACCEPT whatever it is. Sounds weirdo huh. But it is a very good skill to have in life as it helps you have a bigger broader open mind to things in every day life. But when you get this skill you will suffer, fear and live in the past so much less.
I believe when you are practicing radical acceptance we are actually letting our true self heal
@RumpleSteeleSkin Very lovely words! I have been working on accepting things as they are! It is by no means easy but it is very worth it!
@amiablePeace77 Hello friend! Great post... I have never heard of this practice before so I looked it up! Radical acceptance means accepting yourself as you are, no matter who that person is. It means removing the additional layer of reactions to things that are happening that you do not like. Accepting that you are not in control takes a lot of practice and it helps to remember that you don't have to like what is happening!
@lavenderpeach1107
So true peach, accepting and agreeing to it or liking it is not the same.
@amiablePeace77 You are absolutely right!
@amiablePeace77 Hi! This is a new concept for me so I did some research! Radical acceptance is about acknowledging reality- not liking it or contesting it. Once you acknowledge what is really happening, you can change it or start to heal. Radical acceptance has nothing to do with being passive or giving up. It is about channeling your energy into moving on! I really like this concept and I am going to start practicing it! Have a beautiful weekend!
@baylinAnderson123
I like what you said about channeling your energy, channel it to where it is useful, don't waste it on things you can't change.
@amiablePeace77 Yes! You are exactly right!
@amiablePeace77
For me, radical acceptance means that I accept that God is the creator of everything including my life and how the path(s) I'm destined to take. So why do I even need to bother with trying to break free when I know I can't? :D
@LexIris I really enjoy what you said! We just accept it as it is and don't try and change it!
@amiablePeace77 to me radical acceptance could mean accepting that I am facing a challenge I can do nothing to change, so I just accept it and go on with life.
@soulsings You are exactly right! Very well said!
What does it mean to practice radical acceptance? - I actually just learnt about this in a course that im taking on mindfulness but we talked about how radical acceptance can be helpful. Here are a few points.
- practicing radical acceptance is a way to problem solving
- helps to make your reactions less intense
- going forward with knowledge of a situation that you did not have before and learing from the situation that may of happend with the individual
Those are a few small points writting this on phone so hard to go into depth
@KarrotCake
Karrot, thanks for sharing these useful statements with us.
(typing on the phone is not the easiest)
@amiablePeace77 Phone and cups together = making me feel unmindful
