Mindfulness Daily Check-In October 20, 2017
Hello my wonderful Mindfulness community! How is Friday treating you all?
Let's talk about music!
How many of us love to listen to music? I'm already sensing so many people raising their hands.
Do you know that we can practice mindfulness while listening to music? YAYY
Whether its pop on the radio or obscure hipster music, for just one song a day notice its details.
Notice the drum track that is beating throughout, notice the different notes being played, and notice the bass and the undertone it provides to the music. Notice how each component plays with each other, and the dance that this music creates.
Most of all, notice what the music brings out in you – how the music makes you feel, the thoughts, feelings or memories that it evokes. Become aware of this and do not judge what comes up, or try to shun or overly-accept it.
Listen to that really difficult song youve been avoiding that reminds you of a breakup, or of a dead loved one, and be mindful through whatever experience comes forth for you.
Listen to your absolute favorite songs in the entire world, and experience the joy they bring to your soul.
Let the music play you, and observe it as it does.

If you like to listen to music, then this daily practice will give you a newfound way of appreciating your music. It will deepen the love for your favorite songs and make discovering new ones very appealing.
Just be mindful for the duration of just one song you listen to a day! Let me know your thoughts below! ![]()

I love music and I loved this post
thank you!
Music can change my mood and my entire day, it is so true. It often happens to me that music gives me goosebumps, makes me smile or cry, takes me out of my misery... I will try to listen to it with even more attention from now on
Heyy @compassion4you14 - oooh love it
as someone who studies music I sort of began to think that I couldn't quite listen mindfuly or appreciate it in the same ways as I used to (tend to get maybe a little too critical)... That said, it definitely still impacts mood a lot and feels like it keeps me at least semi-sane. I find sometimes noticing the instrumentation, texture and dynamics of some pieces can feel like getting wrapped up in a cosy blanket (assuming it's been panned well of course
) whereas other pieces could feel like they have a more physical impact - feeling the bends or vibrato, a strong rhythm or grittiness from overdrive and so on... I'm just imagining somebody trying to go for a run listening to something like Ornette Colemans Free Jazz - maybe not quite as effective as something with a strong stable rhythm... am I going off track? (oooh puns)
@compassion4you14 - music is my first and favorite mindfulness practice!
Hey there what a great check-in!
I am very passionate about music, I play the piano and I listen to music everyday. It really does help me and it makes me feel different things, and I love it. I love the idea of practising mindfulness while listening to music, it's something I'm going to try next time I'm on a long train journey or on the bus.:D
Thank you for this, have a great weekend <3
I just did this yesterday! I went to an opera and at some points, I just closed my eyes and took in every note and every space between - I was one with the music. Today , I am surrounding myself with beautiful music that stirs my soul and appreciating the notes and voices and the way it makes me feel. Today is a self soothing only positive music day for me - so what a perfect check in theme <3
@blissedNblessed that is so inspiring to hear how you are lifted by music. Thanks for sharing.
@soulsings
Thank you <3
That is so kind of you to say <3
@compassion4you14 how very true that mindfulness and music go together so well. Thanks for reminding me of this. Lovely post.
@compassion4you14
Music has such a great input in my life! It shapes me as a person and it can shape my whole day. I can't understand when someone tells me they don't often listen to any music. I usually just think these people are psychopaths ;)
Tonight I've been listening to the Queens - 'Who wants to live forever'; one of the most powerful and sad songs I know. It makes me feel good and strong and makes me reflect on life and death matters.
Then there's Stromae - 'Papaoutai' which I love purely because of the way Stromae is singing the whole song, his voice is desperate, full of anger and it says exactly what I would like to say to my father. But it's mainly the sound of his voice there that gets me.
