Mindfulness Daily Check-in August 16
Hello Community, I hope everyone is doing well.
Today I want to talk about cyber bullying.
I am not going in statistical details but many get affected due to cyber bullying and harassment everyday. It hurts. It sucks. And it impacts one's mental health as well.
Cyber bullying is a known term in the era of Internet. It is broad and you can find it everywhere. Even on 7Cups. So, let's limit the area to 7Cups.
7Cups is a 24*7 emotional support providing site. Listeners, Members with both adult and teen age are active here. We support thousands of people everyday.
But in amidst of all the good, some unwanted activities also take place. Many listeners, members (adult/teen) suffer harassment from some. You know how it is and how it makes one feel.
So, how could we be mindfully guide our emotions after such negative experiences.
1. Talk with the person you are comfortable discussing with. Many of us are here from a long time and we made some acquaintainces and friends here. If you feeling low and discouraged, feel free to talk to them as you probably be comfortable discussing it with them. While discussing focus on your emotions, how you are feeling. Instead of triangulating the conversation. Be mindful of your emotions.
2. Report about the bully. If the person not stop after polite reminders to behave appropriate, take your stand and report about them. If you are in 1-1, as last resort you can block the person. If you are in support rooms, you can mute and report about them. You not need to involve in arguments and conflict with such people, it will make you feel bad and low. Take right steps to deal with the situation.
3. Take Self care break. Taking self care break is good. Take a break from 7cups and do anything that interests you. Drawing, Music, Cooking, Reading, Writing or anything. Take care of your emotions.
4. Not share any personal details. We are on an anonymous site. We all are strangers to each other. We do not know who is who and what's in the mind. Stay safe and be confidential with your personal details. We are here to support each other anonymously instead of getting into each other's personal lives. Respect your privacy as well as others. Setting boundaries in what you do or say here is mindful practice. Practice it.
5. Perseverance is the key. Do something every day to take care of yourself, your emotions. When you practice mindfulness every day, it cultivates confidence, improves self-esteem and make you courageous to face any situation.
Remember it is your life. You can control your thoughts and actions. You are here to get support and support others. So do not get distracted from your purpose. Spread awareness about cyber bullying and how can one tackle it mindfully. We can do this.
Please do share your thoughts in comments.
Thank you..

Wow Silent this is a very good check in today, also a reminder. Thank you
I guess for me, I have not gotten bullied in a very long time, but I try hard to stay focused as to my vision of "why am I here". Yes this is not easy a lot of the times. People are not as compassionate to this issue. But I try and remain focused, do my stuff, less gossip and so forth. If others are getting bullied and come chat with me. This can easily come into triangulation. So my boundaries I put up so that it doesn't also affect me.
I do feel very bad for folks who get bullied

@RumpleSteeleSkin
I will survive
@scarletPear1945
Yes You Will
@ASilentObserver a very relevant checkin. Hope that everyone finds some tips in that.
My tip is a mindfulness technique: Not Reacting. Focus on the breath or look out the window but do not react. This takes away the reward the bully gets when they elicit a reaction. Respond without anger or disturbance if you must respond and the bully will be looking for easier targets.
@soulsings
HIya Souls good to see you today! I have begun to recently place in what you described here. I saw the difference in ME more so the person who was doing the bullying. This to me is more important then what the other person is doing to me. However yesterday something was directed at me, and I vented to someone letting it ruffle me a bit
I am practicing this over and over no matter as I know I will change on how this affects me. But hey bullying doesn't really affect me, as I push things aside mostly. Cause I know what kind of person I am
@RumpleSteeleSkin good to see you <3
@ASilentObserver Thank you and let me remind you all that cyber bullying isn't just the kids and teens issue. Adults go through it as well. The only difference is that we already know to keep hush especially if you're a parent or a teacher or other and you're surrounded with kids and teens. They look up to you to see if you can handled bullying of ANY kind. Some of the adults have some healthy ways and some don't. The kids and teens take whatever they saw in us and it continues all the way to their own adulthood.
@sweetrosa1987
HI Rosa good that you dropped by today
Bullying happens to any gender any age and so on. There really isn't 1 kinda person, but mostly those that are sensitive, different and so on. No I am not labeling no one at all. I'm just commenting for what I see in society- and it is sad regardless. I teach mine as kids just cause someone is different then you doesn't give them the right to be rude and mean. I do not tolerate this in my house hold. I believe yes it starts at home and is continously learned.
I'm glad Silent brought this up today. It's also a good reminder on how important it is to watch our own reactions when getting bullied, but also bringing awareness to this topic of how real it is today-

@RumpleSteeleSkin
Thanks for posting this. It is very useful when well known , famous elephants stand strong and say this so others can see their views.
@RumpleSteeleSkin I agreed.
@sweetrosa1987 glad to hear your thoughts and insights rosa. Thank you
@ASilentObserver You're welcome.
