Mindfulness Daily Check-in February 16, 2018
Mindfulness Daily Check-in. What can I say that will really make you wake up and take notice.
This is one of the most difficult topics to talk about and probably one of the most difficult to hear. Everyone at some point discovers that every person has a body that is born and after some years, dies. There is no escaping that fact.
When I was much younger in my 20's I thought that all the things that shaped me really had power over me. But they had no power on me the more I let go of them. There is nothing I can do to change the past, no matter how horrible it was. There is nothing I can do to enjoy the past. It is like food behind a glass wall that I can see but no matter what I do I cannot eat that food.
The only "food" I can eat is in this moment. The only thing I can experience is right now with my senses. That does not mean I let go of wisdom and compassion, it means that I start to accept that this is a one way journey with an amount of time of which I am not certain. But the destination is certain. We just do not know when we will get there.
I am getting closer to that time than I was decades ago in my 20's so for me these are pressing issues. I am not trying to be morbid, but the thing that helps us the most is letting go. Jon Kabat-Zinn illustrates this very well in this 3 minute video: https://youtu.be/bBCithP9JrM
This a private exercise that you need not put down in public: Name 10 things you want to do before your life is over?
The other can be answered in your journal or here: What can I let go of today to see how I can experience freedom from clinging to that thing that is making me miserable?

@soulsings
oh SNAP Souls this is great and deep but well written
Very good post I say. Love how you used food to describe things we can't have-but what is right there in front of us. I say reality I guess. As sometimes even me can get into "bubble" world some.
Things I like to get done before my time to get to heaven are.........
1. See my kids get married and kids. To be secure in money for future
2. To join in a trauma support group but to use my conseling degree and help other
3. Kick off a low income day care, resource center, activities center for low income families
4. Make a big dent in abuse and hunger
5. Finally take that big step and be a home owner
6. To get some more handicapped little critters or abused ones and give them the best home ever
7. To add the 8th cup to 7cips-lol
8. To visit my parents grave sit with true forgiveness and then release them from myself
I'm really not a greedy person or focus just on me. So whatever my God has planned for me then Im ready
@soulsings
Letting go of desire to change certain circumstances in my life because it only creates pressure. Things will happen in their time, I can try but I cannot force.
@amiablePeace77
Peace we surely can get obsessed over "change" or perfection in our lives! If we place in a few healthy changes I believe changes will come. Good outlook on this
@soulsings Agree Soul. Lovely check-in and wonderful thoughts. The analogy of food is just awesome. Thank you for sharing it with us. I always try to be mindful about what I have NOW so I could be grateful for it.
