Mindfulness Special Checkin for June 22, 2018
Hi I did not plan to do a checkin but I could not let this opportunity to share an article about attention in kids and how to motivate kids. It is the same with our own inner child. We are the adults now and it can be difficult to motivate this child-like state inside ourselves. This article shows that by practicing paying attention we can develop more ability to notice our environment. If we give our inner child more free will or autonomy then we allow them to self motivate. This can help us all develop our practice of mindfulness. Here is the whole article. https://tinyurl.com/y7vj5j2w

@soulsings Hi Soul!
How are you doing today? I hope you are having a lovely Friday!
This is such an amazing article! Thank you for sharing it with us all as it was so interesting and insightful to read!
How do you motivate your inner child?
I motivate my inner child by focusing on how whatever I do, I can find a way to be interested in it, personalize it, and benefit myself. I studied Theories of Motivation in 2015 when I was in undergraduate school, and it was my absolute favorite. I learned a lot and incorporated aspects of different theories in my life, but no matter what, I would focus on ways to intrisincally motivate myself rather than extrinsically.
How well does it work?
Honestly, it works quite well! It needs alterations every now and then, but I created quite a productive and efficient system for myself!
After reading the article, how do you think you could modify or change your methods of motivation?
After reading the article, I think I could modify or change my methods of motivation by always being attentive of whether or not my method is working for my current task or not, and how I can improve it if needed.
@SaimaK so glad you are having success with your practice. thanks for sharing.
@soulsings Thank you so much, Soul!
I hope you are having a lovely weekend!
@soulsings
Hello Soul!
I motivate my inner child by remembering that most things even some really tough things can be funny.
It helps that I am a teacher and my students help me with my inner child
I hope you had a great week!
@soulsings
Hiya Souls...
Okay - this may show my life in a box/under a rock (kindly expressed: outside of the norm) - but it ISN'T normal for children to just observe the actions of elders to learn them for later use? I'm a little confused............ really?
That's what I did as a kid to the point it drove my elders bonkers -- don't you want to go play? No, I'm watching you cook/weed the garden/darn a sock/snap beans/etc. I could sit and watch people do task all day as a kid and later apply it.... so according to this article most kids don't do this. Again.... really? I'll still do this... I can watch people doing things and sort out steps and try things from this visually acquired experience even today.
It just kinda' blows my mind... but you really don't know what goes on outside of your realm of experiences until you are exposed to it. But this idea just really makes me go WHAAAAA?
@diplomaticconfucious I grew up watching my dad and mom and I learned a lot. Now the 1 year old wants to start pushing buttons on a cell phone way too young to be hooked on technology. The US is a changing place.
@soulsings
This is an exploration of nuture vs nature it seems. Yet again, my under the rock life will show here, in child psych classes many moons ago - observation and explorative were developmental tools.
So... in theory, the observed "plugged in" habits of older individuals is the pathway to the developing juvenile's relationship to the world. Herein, leading to the attributions of shortened attentoon span and other tech-dependent qualities of their personality.
Am I close?
@soulsings
Thanks for this intersting post. I strongly believe in letting children develop creativity and autonomy - the Maya Way allows them to do so.
How do you motivate your inner child? It needs to understand why to do something - like go walking in your area bec you can connect to your surroundings
How well does it work? Depends on the situation, the inner child can be stubborn but usually I can motivate it well.
After reading the article, how do you think you could modify or change your methods of motivation? I believe that I am doing well at the moment
