For me, goal setting needs to be clear enough to have room for hope and problem-solving: hope involves knowing that there might be more than one pathway to get there and so that helps me see the obstacles as challenges rather than mere distractions.

its important to frame things in a positive light. Further, it’s important to view obstacles as gifts and opportunities. This shift in thinking allows you to create goals from your obstacles so you rarely focus on the negative!
@SoulfullyAButterfly I would say that turning your obstacles into goals is a major, major piece in focusing on your larger goals.
@WayJay The ability to turn an obstacle into a gift and an opportunity for growth really changes the frame from which you experience challenges/obstacles. This all comes from the types of questions that you ask yourself about the obstacles and the type of self-talk you initiate about your obstacles.
@WayJay Questions that frame the obstacle as being something that is essential to your growth so that you can achieve your main goal can be very, very helpful. For example, "How does this obstacle contribute to my time management skills?" " How can I use these newly improved time management skills in my overall goal? "
@WayJay Typically, the question is normally the answer.
How can I _____?
When will I _______?
Why must I ________?
Are question stems that you can ask yourself so you can better identify how each obstacle can be reframed as a gift and as an opportunity.
Hey
@SoulfullyAButterfly to me the goals are like the lighthouse in the fog. Focusing on reaching the goal helps me simply go over obstacles. With bigger obstacles I just re design the route to the goal and keep going. Even coming up to a tall brick wall offers a variety of ways to climb over it. Creative problem solving. I taught myself in high school something can block my path only if I allow it too. The obstacles could make you stronger, wiser, learn something new, and learn you are capable of solving a challenge in a way you didn't know you could. Challenges are a way of getting to know yourself better.
