Stuck on Repeat? - You Can Break Free!
Have you ever felt like life is a continuous loop that you're trapped in?
Patterns are important as they simplify our lives and organizes the world around us. However, unhealthy patterns can leave us feeling stuck. These unhealthy patterns can make us feel frustrated and the more we feel frustrated, the more we end up making the pattern a vicious circle.
And the result?
- We are focused on the frustrated emotions so much that we don't focus on solving the pattern. Hence, we're stuck on repeat.
"We Repeat What We Don't Repair" - Christine Langley-Obaugh
Here are five rules which can help in breaking free from these unhealthy repeating patterns :
1. Start taking responsibility for your process - You are powerful and capable.
Other people, things or situation don't need to be blamed. You are the only one that can change your life.
2. Observe and recognize your patterns.
Often there must be some signals or words or situation which your mind may warn you that you are starting a pattern. Notice and Check your emotions.
3. Separate your present from your past and take control.
Realize that you can take control of your life and you have the choice to not practice exact same methods you have tried before. Or, if you have been trained to do things in a particular way as children which you consider unhealthy, realize that if it does not make sense to you then you have a choice to practice what works best for you in your present.
4. Identify what you're gaining from the unhealthy patterns that no longer serve you - Meet your own needs
Sometimes it happens that we end up getting in these negative patterns because some need gets fulfilled by something or someone else, even though it may not be serving us in the long run. We all have certain emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and security needs. Identify your own needs in different aspects of your life and commit to meet your own needs by yourself.
5. Focus on the lessons learnt and change your ways of approaching the problem - Experiment!
Every unpleasant experience in our life gives us some lesson. So, the next time when you notice a certain pattern repeating, keep the lesson in your mind and make a different choice. Experiment with your healthy options and learn what works the best for you.

I self reflect and try to find out different ways to perform a task instead of repeating the unhealthy patterns. Many times i am in the loop of unhealthy patterns sub conciously so, I try to fix the unhealthy repeating pattern by avoiding to perform them conciously, in this way i am more concious about everything i am doing everyday. I believe self awareness is very important to quit this loop of repetitive behaviors.
You have shared some good tips thank you so much! Next time I'd like remind myself to observe my repeating unhealthy patterns in my life that if something worked in the past may not work again or may be giving me some negative results too.

I will try to include the rules that you have shared and see if it helps me out at that moment, I think it will. I need to separate myself from my thoughts because sometimes I find it hard to believe that my thoughts aren't my whole story, and by attaching myself to my thoughts, I just get more susceptible to the pain it may bring along. only I have the power over my thoughts so expecting others to understand it for me is also not as healthy, while talking to people helps, I should realize the power of change lies in my own hands. sometimes, I am afraid to try something because I am unsure if it will work but maybe that's the point, we all need to experiment and see what coping mechanisms work the best for us.
I loved this post a lot, and I will surely try to apply it more consciously! thank you, Star.

Hello, Lumie! Thank you so much for your compliment! I am glad you loved the post, find it beautiful and consider the points mentioned in the post useful.
I understand it can get difficult when we attach ourselves with our thoughts ( or even other things or people). I totally relate with that! And, yes dear even though sometimes experimenting may feel a bit overwhelming because we maybe hesitant or worried to try something new but as you said we all need to to find out what coping mechanism work the best for us and the power of change lies totally in our own hands.
Believe in yourself, Lumie.
