Weekly sharing of Goals! Week #34 (Monday 8/21/23 - Sunday 8/27/23)

User Profile: IsayUncle
IsayUncle August 21st, 2023

I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.

But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.

To praise each other for our efforts and wins.

While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.

And to continue trying and not give up.

Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!

Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

Another Week! A New fresh Week to Continue, Drift or Make Anew
(We Got This!)
image_1692607156.png
I think.... 😉

I'm going to be drifting mostly this week because I picked up a side job which usually consumes a lot of my time. But I did succeed with my weight management goal last week and ended up with a bonus incentive to go for my next weight management goal.

I've already acquired four days below 280 pounds so I think I'm gonna commit to three more days of maintaining 280 pounds or less.

My goal last week was 282 or less for seven days and I achieved that but I usually take a break after that. My weight this morning was 278.8 and it was just a bit over 279 for the previous three days so I'm going for the gusto and shooting for 280 or less this week to accumalate seven consecutive days.

And you guys? 😄

@IsayUncle

Congratulations!

My goal this week is to write on the lessons, and to stay calm and not stress out while I'm getting my interns set up with their programming.

Glad to be able to start a new week.

Here's to everyone who is moving forward and making progress with as little stress as possible, and with mindful compassion on ourselves.

My main goal is to take it hour by hour at work and not let anxiety and bad thoughts get the best of me. I also want to get in a workout each day except Sundsy. Today is on the books with a 27 mile bike ride. Work was OK, better than I thought it would be.

That's cool that work was better than expected.

A 27 mile bike ride ? outdoor ride or indoor bike. What's that take you about 1.5 hrs +/-?

Outdoor...we have a paved bike path that runs through the area...its fairly flat...its appx 13 miles one way end to end...with the extra mile coming in from the house to the path...It takes about 1 hour 45 min due to bike and pedestrian traffic on the trail. I average 12 to 15 miles an hour. It's a scenic route so I sometimes ride slow just to enjoy the day and the ride. I get my hills in on the roads....I live in a hilly New England town. Those rides usually aren't as long, but....I do have a 50 mile loop that is a combination of hills and flat that I try to do at least once or twice a season. I really enjoy indoor spinning also during the harsh new England winters. I do try to mix up my workouts through the week with bike, elliptical, stair stepper amd weights in the winter but outdoor cycling in the nicer weather is my passion.

I know it doesn't solve all the problems and fix everything and stuff like that but it's really good that you work hard at keeping that goodness within you.😀..... Good job man, keep it up!

She does not...she's an elliptical lover and does weight lifting....she's kinda hooked on the elliptical because that is the cardio she used to lose over 75 pounds along with diet changes... and she's still going.... she is sticking with what works for her...I go to the gym with her at least twice a week and elliptical with her... we have a good time working out together.

As far as goals...I did another 27 mile ride today on the trail. That was the only thing I had planned for today after work.

@CyclingThroughLife

Very Cool! I'm sure I'm gonna have to do some cardio to lose my last 50 pounds when exercising really isn't in my wheelhouse. I stay pretty busy and active doing construction type work for myself and side work but that's not the same as cardio.

When I'm ready to start doing some cardio I wanna get one of those bicycles with the big fat tires like trail bikes or something I guess because I live in the woods and I have tons of trails that I can ride that the ATV's and four Wheelers ride on.

I relate to you as far as loving the outdoor ride. Me too. Hearing about your girlfriend reinforced the reality that I need to get some cardio into my schedule. And BIG kudos to her! That's awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Hey Kristen, we are heading into Wednesday and I was wondering how you were making out towards Hump day. Cycling seems to be doing pretty good maintaining his afternoons so far so that's pretty cool.

I'm kind of a train wreck this week waiting for it to happen but holding steady on the tracks or a sailboat with the torn jib and no way to fix it but it still floating and being blown every which way.🤣.

My bus list was only half the job. Implementing it has turned into somewhat of a terror this week for me. Plus I picked up a side job that I don't even wanna mess with and blah blah blah. I am absolutely just going with the flow. No goals no plans just holding fast.

My saving grace is my weight management. I'm 99% sure I'll be good tomorrow morning and so that will leave me with one more day to be at 280 or less for seven consecutive days. and I just finished canning 5 jars of fruit. I love canned fruit but I hate the syrupy stuff they sell in the stores. Mine has no sugar, I usually use raisins or honey or pineapples added to my fruit mix.

What is your Wednesday looking like? 🤪 Any luck on those lessons? 😊

I hope you're doing great. I also hope we all can chime in together and continue supporting each other. It's been such a big boost to me. Thank you so much for reaching out to myself and to cycling. I think it is so very cool!

We got it this week.... Right?? image_1692747181.png

It's going well Uncle. I've been busy all-day meeting with my interns and getting their schedules all gone over with them and trained on the documents they have needed. I started my day at 5:30 am and I'm still going. Took about 2 hours down so far today. So it's going well.

I have half of the 1st lesson written, so I've made quite a bit of progress today. I'm very happy about that.

I hope that you continue to do well with everything. Remember it's one step at a time (talking to myself too). It's not a race, it's a journey. And we can do this and we are doing this.

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!

Today = 278.6 and the end of my weight reduction burden for a while. I can relax a bit now. I met my 2 goals of below 282 and below 280 for 7 consecutive days each for a total reduction of 6 pounds.

PLUS: I broke into the 270's.... A great benchmark to own. My next goal will be 277 or less for 7 consecutive days but not now; and until then, I'll just do weight management for a while instead of weight reduction.

It already feels wonderful not having that hourly pressure of worrying if I was going to mess up my weight goal. Of course, I must admit that my healthy eating made me feel much better on a daily basis.

Friday 8/25

Time to play catch up on this thread. I first want to say that just because I'm not here and posting every day, or clicking the heart on each of your posts, I am here supporting. I read the new postings every day on my phone, but I rarely update and type anything on my phone. The small letters and fat fingers cause me too much distress and it all comes out auto corrected wrong, spelled wrong or just wrong in general. I wait until I can get on the lap top to actually sit and properly type out responses to the threads I follow here on 7cups. This is usually on Friday or Saturday mornings,(my regular scheduled 2 days off) during my coffee time, or once, maybe twice a week, in the afternoon if I'm not running around with life things after work. With that said I want to say that it looks like both of you, Uncle and Kristen are rocking the week....Keep up the good work.

My update. Work has been a busy and interesting week. I have managed to get everything on my work to do list completed prior to ending my day yesterday. I will have a new immediate supervisor on Monday. I could have applied for the promotion, probably would have gotten it, but I didn't. I did a lot of thinking on it, and for stress and mental health reasons, I let it be. With 90 percent of my problems being the staff on my team, I'll be glad to have someone else help me deal with that. I'm happy doing what I'm doing and being the second guy in charge right now. We had a long talk yesterday. lots of changes coming, I'm on board with all his ideas. After relaying that information to my team, those under me don't seem to think so, they don't want the change.....we will see how that goes. I may end up with a new team come time of shift bid in January. Sorry, I went a little off track there with my work stuff.

My list for this weekend in no particular order:

-Clean the basement(I have a stone foundation with a concrete floor. I have to do cobweb removal on the regular)

-look at and attempt to maybe fix the bathroom fan(its not puling the moisture out like it should)

-weekly mowing of the grass if the weather permits(rain all day today, tomorrow will be hit or miss)

-weekly balancing of the checkbook and finance things

-get in a workout each day

-weekly grocery run

-finish folding and putting away my laundry....its still in the dryer from yesterday afternoon :-(

Thats all I can think of right now. I'm sure things will pop up and be added to that but I'm trying not to have that happen.

-straighten up the garage for space for winter storage

Update:

Basement done

Finances done

Workout done - 1 hr weigh lifting

Laundry done

Bathroom fan-started....fan itself seems good. I am going to have to go into the attic crawlspace and follow the exhaust to the outside wall looking for problems/blockages there. I wasn't feeling the attic crawlspace today so tomorrow it is....

@CyclingThroughLife

What a fantastic post, thanks for sharing, man. I hope you keep talking about your work. That’s a big deal.

It’s part of what I call our “Goal DNA” (Daily Necessary Activities) our jobs are part of our Goal DNA; they are actually the biggest part (+ children) of our DNA because they affect many of our actions after work and daily lives. We need to talk about that if we’re gonna keep talking about goals and what it takes to attain them. Pour your heart out, it really does help others too.

It's pretty exciting that you got a lot of your work stuff done and a hopeful outcome with a new supervisor. One week done of two years. That’s better than one hour done of one day. Sounds like you’ve done really well. Congratulations, good job.

I’d like to take a minute to talk about replying and posting in this venue. I think we all understand that it is very time consuming and we just do the best that we can. It’s great to get a thumbs up but at the same time we really do have to understand that everyone is busy and everyone does the best that they can. On a personal level, I’m really glad that you like this thread.

With that said, something about this website or venue that doesn’t jive to good with me is how it’s so geared so strongly towards a 1 to 1 relationship. Which is fine, it’s beautiful in its context, it’s a great idea…. But it’s called 7 cups, which insinuates seven people having a peaceful and productive chat over tea.

I know I’m the author of this thread but I would love it for everyone to kind of talk to each other and mix and mingle because we all have such great insights with different experiences and ideas in different areas and timetables to where someone else can encourage someone else if someone else ain’t there. (Now who’s going on a tangent?)

SORRY Cycling for hijacking your post. (Anyway, NO WORRIES about when you post. YOU always add too the conversation when you do). LOVE IT!

Ok, I’m cheating here by consolidating your other posts. Good job on getting all those chores done. That was a lot man! You’re a regular Superman.

One quick question.....Is there a way to "pin a thread to the top" of the threads you subscribe to. Since I don't come here to actually "answer" posts regularly, I click the subscribe button a lot from my phone so I can read them as people post, and then go back at my leisure when I'm in front of the computer to type out what I need to type out. I'd like to do that with this thread and have it right on top because its one of the threads I've been the most active in.

Saturday 4:40am:

I'm feeling pretty lost and discouraged right now.

If I were to list all my aspirations and projects, I could probably fill a notebook the thickness of a World Atlas.

I didn't set any solid goals this week but I was trying to get my side work done and my school bus list completed. Both those things are still hanging over my head this weekend. My partner is elderly and he had some medical issues to deal with this so he couldn't work with me.

We had a pretty good system going to where we both could work a little bit part time we'll get the whole job done within profitable margin. Without him being able to work it was all on me to unload the dump truck hook up the trailer load the backhoe drive to the job do the job etcetera etcetera. And deal with the customers. I can only work between my school bus driving hours which is only a few hours a day. In this situation, a one day job as used up four days of my week and I'm still waiting for the customer to call me to let me know that he's ready to fill in his ditch so now I gotta go back and do that and then load up all the equipment and bring it back home.

Unable to finish that job and using all my time, not allowing me to work on the school bus list has left me in the rears.

With a wasted week like this and when I have so many other aspirations, it really discourages me. I still have Saturday and Sunday to get to square-one so I guess I'll go wash my dishes and get started. Begrudgingly, unfortunately and forcibly try to get to a good starting point for Monday. Yipeee, freaking Skippy! 😣

I felt so bewildered this morning I even forgot to have my morning coffee. I finally had some coffee washed the dishes, made breakfast, and then finished cleaning the dishes and the kitchen.

I'm still feeling pretty foggy and unmotivated but I'm gonna try to move to the laundry.

I'm sorry to hear you felt like last week was discouraging and wasn't what you wanted. It's okay to have a down week and take time off or not have goals accomplished.

This week has been super busy for me and I have not accomplished anything I decided I needed to accomplish but accomplished a lot that required my attention. So while it didn't go as planned I'm okay with that.

You work really hard, even when you don't set a specific goal, please see that in yourself. It's okay to give yourself a little compassion and kindness. You work so hard, and not just working on what you need to work at but going above and beyond to make others' lives better. I wonder if you give yourself credit for how much you do in that realm?

I'll wrap up with two words. Self - Kindness. We all need it from time to time. 😁

@KristenHR

Thanks for the reassurances and kind words.😀. I know that you're right but I'm just not feeling it right now. I fall into this tunnel vision mode and if I can't get a task done it really messes with me. But thanks for the encouragement reminding me of my progress. It's easy to not see that sometimes.

Well, we got another week winding down. I like what you said about not getting done what you planned on getting done but still getting other things done that needed your attention. That makes for a good week too because sometimes it opens up the road for that specific goal that we're still shooting for. Good Deal!

After your busy week, I hope you can take some time to rest and relax today.

I wish I could chill today but my side job called me up and said they were ready for me to finish that job for them. I think I'd feel better finishing up today instead of letting it drag into Monday. And then the dreaded tunnel vision list...... arrrgh...... NAH..... it'll be OK!

MONDAY starts a fresh week and I'll be that much closer!

I hope you have a fantastic day today!
