Weekly sharing of Goals! Week #40 (Monday 10/02/23 - Sunday 10/08/23)
I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.
But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.
To praise each other for our efforts and wins.
While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.
And to continue trying and not give up.
Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!
Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.
@CyclingThroughLife @spicyavocado3788
Even though our work weeks or work days may differ, here we are at the beginning of another week. I do not have a clear picture of my goals for this week. But I do feel hopeful with a slight bit of trepidation lingering. (I'll stomp that out though!)
I wish everyone good feelings and accomplished days. Also an abunance of patience and understading if things get off track a bit. Be well my freinds!
Thank you for including me. I’ve really enjoyed reading from both of you on the last post. There’s something really special about sharing your thoughts, feelings, and goals in a supportive space.
Happy Monday!
I’m sitting down with my first cup of happiness for the day. ☕️ Ah, I really enjoy my morning coffee. I love the contrasting sips between hot, brewed coffee and cold, refreshing water. I am also not sure yet what I would like to accomplish today. But the words, “start small” are at the forefront of my mind. I’m going to try to listen to my intuition today and see if I can find some productive baby steps to take. I’ve been drawing a bit too lately and that’s been boosting my confidence it seems. Not because I’m some great, refined artist (I’m definitely not…stick figures FTW 😆), but because I’m consciously letting myself know that I can accomplish tasks without being overly critical of the results. You get better with practice. 💙
I hope you both (any anyone else reading) have a lovely day today. Remember, you are important.
@spicyavocado3788
Tbh, I wasn't sure about the inclusion (not wating to be assuming) so I am very happy that you're comfortable talking with us and sharing your thoughts. It's really nice to get well-rounded conversations going for encouragement and different points of views. Welcome aboard, glad to have you!
I've never drank water with my coffee but that's it very good idea. I think I'll incorporate that sometimes because I like my coffee a lot.... and need more water.
I hope you got your win today. I would say you deserve it!
@spicyavocado3788
Start small and baby steps are a great way to begin. I like to try to start small but then I lose my way, get annoyed and jump right into what I'm doing with both feet and up to my head lol.....I hope you can start small and get to where you need to be.....
So this is my first week off in May and so my goal is to meet my Whoop strain target everyday. Today would have been my third day running in the gym but I work up and felt like I’d already gone twelve rounds! Everything but my back was aching and it my plan was to do deadlifts and back. I ended up crashed on the sofa all day. Tomorrow we go again.
@ivoryLakeuk
I like your motivation and dedication. Keep up the great work......
@ivoryLakeuk I've heard some great things about Whoop. Do you like it? I'm particularly interested in the stress monitor/tracker that is on whoop. Do you happen to use that feature? Awesome goal for the week by the way.
I do like it. I tend to have an ‘all or nothing’ mentality when it comes to health and fitness. Having a target range helps me to moderate what I do more, especially when I do exercise because I find Whoop says I’ve had enough when I’d have done even more.
I don’t tend to use stress monitoring / sleep tracking if I’m honest. Only because I find it hard to make changes as a result of the metrics. Oh my sleep wasn’t as good last night… but why, what can I change? Similar with the stress metric, I get the notification toward the end of each work day “you spent 3 hours in high stress today”… okay, but I can’t control what comes up at work! If you can correlate your scores with behaviours/factors under your control then I could see it being useful.
@ivoryLakeuk
I'm a big Garmin guy when it comes to tracking my health/fitness. I've been using Garmin watches to track my bike rides, cardio, stress, basically all things health and fitness for the last 6 or 7 years. I understand the sleep/stress tracking and what is and isn't under your control. I like to have the numbers so I can look back and maybe try to come up with a way to "fix" what I can. I also need the sleep tracking due to migraines. How I sleep has much to do with my migraines and can help tell me if I may or may not end up with one. I also wear a Garmin heart rate monitor for all my cardio workouts. Like you, I am kinda all in....all or nothing....I feel if I can't get in at least 30 or 45 min when I work out, its not worth doing...I feel like I have to be in HR zone 5 for all my cardio workout or I'm not benefiting.....which is why I've decided to "get back to basics", with my workouts, if that makes sense. Have a good basic fitness base plan and not over complicate it.
This week I'm only trying to maintain my workouts until my days off. Then I will hit my to-do list. We have soccer today, I'm actually typing this out on my phone at half-time, Wed and Friday. Busy week with that. I did 25 easy miles on the bike today. I'm usually very competitive against myself, with times distances, and routes. Today I just went to enjoy the mileage....took photos and video of nature, etc...I enjoyed the ride today...it was good for me...hoping for more bike tomorrow, weights on Wed and maybe a short bike on Thursday....keep up the grind and keep moving forward folks....
@CyclingThroughLife
Really nice to hear about the gentle bike ride. Good for you, sometimes that's the way to do it.
I'm not making any real plans either for this week. I got my backhoe running yesterday so I worked my lot this afternoon between my bus driver hours. We got a fall break coming this weekend so I have a four day weekend and just maybe I'll be able to get a couple monkeys off of my back.
My partner was talking about doing some junk job about 2 1/2 hours away so I hope that doesn't throw a wrench into my personal plans. Everything will work out the way it's supposed to.
I know you can't post much during the week so you make sure you have a great week and good job with the phone post.....LOl I hope your boy does awesome in the soccer games.
@IsayUncle
I'm glad you got your backhoe fixed and got some work done. Hopefully things work out and you can get that monkey where it needs to be.....
Soccer yesterday went well....everyone played well and we are happy with the results. I did another 25 miles again today on the bike....I did the same route as yesterday and did another easy, enjoy the outdoors and nature, ride. Tomorrow is an away game so I have about an hour and a half drive one way. I will try to get in a quick weight session before I go. Work has been a hectic, chaotic mess again so far this week. I have been searching within to get to the root of why I feel the way I do about my job. I want to blame a change in me over the years, as I get older, and how I view certain things. I certainly don't have the tolerance for ********(insert bad word here) like I did in the past. But I'm sure there is more and I will continue to search within myself(and with the help of some awesome 7cupsers and listeners) to find answers. Anyway....I hope everyone in this thread is accomplishing all they need to do. Have a wonderful night folks....
@CyclingThroughLife
I think you're doing really awesome man. it's too bad that a new supervisor didn't magically change the dynamic of the entire job and all the stuff that you have to deal with. But it really seems like everything else you're doing is keeping you pretty well-rounded and I don't think that happens by accident.
Keep studying on it and doing the best that you can. I believe you'll be able to wrap your head around it if you don't let it beat you down too much. Stay tough my friend! Work s**s d**k! sometimes (bad words inserted). That's the raw hard truth! I think it has a lot to do with repetitiveness, problems over and over again with no agreeable solutions.
“Familiarity breeds contempt.” Aesop
This is a quote I remind myself of often when I am searching within. It is 3000 years old and has lost no significance in truth. Being familiar with the problem that often has no solution can be so frustrating and make us so angry. But we should (TRY TO) never let it make us contemptuous and hateful. I think you're doing great trying to search within. You got it and I hope this helps.
@CyclingThroughLife
Hi Cycling, I reread my last reply to you and I was hoping to clarify the following comment.
".... can be so frustrating and make us so angry. But we should (TRY TO) never let it make us contemptuous and hateful."
I should have used the words "I and me" instead of "we and us". It should have read more along the lines "I" try not to let familiarity make me hateful and angry." I did not mean to assume that it was making you contemptuous hateful and angry, (Sorry about that if that's the way it sounded)
I think what I was trying to share with you, is that I believe familiarity is a real problem. Once I started to recognize this, it was a lot easier for me not to get so frustrated at repetitive situations and other people. But that doesn't mean repetitive situations and other people didn't get on my last nerve sometimes. It just helped me reduce the amount of times it got to the point of high irritation.
I'm glad your work week is almost over and I hope it ends on a good note and if not, just glad it ends and you got the weekend to look forward to. Yea Man!
P.S. Don't get jealous but we are on fall break so I get a four day weekend. LOL
I am having an extremely hard time trying to focus on one goal.
I was within one or two days of finishing my lot completely but then we had to use the backhoe for a job and all I have is my little tractor. I wanna finish the little bit left that I got to do but I don't know if I should use my little tractor and take twice the time or wait until I get the backhoe back.
My paperwork is all backed up again plus with a new group of students and as the ongoing year changes my bus capabilities; I need to redo the seating chart. I really think I should spend all day today on my paperwork and bussing charts.
There's a couple of workshops I've been trying to get shelves in and organized but my generator broke and I don't have any power down there. These are attached to the lot that I've been working with on the backhoe and I would love just to go hang out down there and fix my generator put some shelves up do some backhoe work but really I should just stay in the house all day and do my paperwork and housework.
Needless to say, I'm really torn when it comes to focusing today. My druthers are trying to drag me outside with a big old tugboat rope but what I need to do is trying to keep me inside with a line of cheap thread.
Inside work = bussing charts, receipts, file away all paperwork on desk, dishes, make large house salad, make work related phone calls, vacuum floors, change dog beddings, do laundry,
Even the worst laid plans fall apart sometimes. LOL
I had a pretty good morning, I got all my physical house chores done but then decided to go work on the tractor instead of doing paperwork. After working on the tractor I was feeling guilty not doing the paperwork so I came in and rested a bit and eat some lunch.
I finally made an "in for all" decision to continue with the tractor work. To work it as hard as I could until dark. One of the reasons the tractor work was tugging at me is because we're supposed to have a little bit of rain this evening and tomorrow morning and you can't move mud.
I felt good that I committed and was ready to go all in.... BUT then, a hydraulic line busted about 15 minutes into my afternoon gung ho effort! Ain't that the way? Best laid plans and all.
It's a little bit late in the afternoon for this brain of mine to concentrate on paperwork but I'm gonna do the best I can and see if I can salvage the day.
@IsayUncle
I read your post about your day falling apart. Your paperwork is weighing heavy on you. Push through and complete that so you do not feel the stress of it. You can do this!
@IsayUncle
Is this where I share my goal?
GOAL......only consume alcohol on Saturday night. I've gotten in a bad habit of have a cocktail several days a week. I do not drink alone. I'm always with my husband and friends. But lately, it seems too much.
@AmyK1234
It's easy to relax a little bit more and more during the week with friends and family. I think it's pretty cool that you're recognizing it and decided to take action. Good for you, you can do it!
And to answer your question, (yes) to writing your goals here. + new weekly thhread
Every week is a fresh start so we start a new thread every week but all our goals follow along with us as we move forward. if you want, I'll tag you with the new weekly thread that we start on Mondays.
How do you think you're gonna feel about not having cocktails as often as you have been?
@AmyK1234
This is a great goal. It sounds like you have the drive and motivation to accomplish it. I may not be able to respond to all your updates, but I will be supporting you...look for the upvotes....
FRIDAY 5:30AM: I must admit, I'm pretty discouraged this morning. Getting my lot finished is a big deal because it ties in with the other projects that I'm working on. I was really looking forward to getting it done this weekend but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen and then I have a pretty big side job next week so it's not gonna happen next week either. It's just dragging on and on and on.
I thought I might be able finish it up with my little tractor with persistence and perseverance. The difference between the tractor and the backhoe can be compared to emptying a 5 gallon bucket of water with a teaspoon versus emptying it with a saucepan. My tractor is a teaspoon, the backhoe is the saucepan. And then of course as I said yesterday, my hydraulic line broke on the small tractor.
@AmyK1234 Your words yesterday, "just to get my paperwork done" is playing in my brain this morning and that's a good thing. Thanks for the encouragement. Even yesterday evening when I was gonna do my paperwork I ended up getting three social phone calls and then a visitor. I hardly interact that much socially in a month..... Whew, weird. (no paperwork done)
So, today is definitely paperwork day.
I hope everyone has a real good day today and try not to get too discouraged from setbacks. I already feel better because I guess it felt good to write about it. Stay facing your goals and thanks for listening.
@IsayUncle @CyclingThroughLife
Hello friends,
I see you have both have big to do lists. Here's some encouragement through all you have to do.
Hi @AmyK1234, nice to meet you! Glad you've joined in. How is your goal going?
One step at a time, one task at a time, and self-compassion as you go!
My Goal: I'll be joining you today with some balance this weekend.
My goal is to do some paperwork and to have some play time to enjoy my day and yet accomplish what I need to get done. I am writing curriculum. Same topic as last time, but a longer, more intensive program this time.
Missed you all!

@KristenHR
YAYYAY! iT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU TOO. I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to a balanced weekend. I hope that works for you very well.
You seem to stay extremely busy with your curriculums and class schedules and training seminars so it's always good to hear from you and see that you're doing OK.
I have not been able to break my mental blockade for two days towards my paperwork, actually a day and a 1/2 but today I finally started breaking the piles down and getting her done. I hope you have a very productive and some fun weekend.😀 and thanks for the encouragement.
Happy Friday folks.....I had big plans to start a to do list today, on my day off. I have accomplised one thing....getting groceries....I slept 11 hours last night...a big change from the 5 or 6 I usually get. Then I spent a bunch of time binge watching MASH on HULU before deciding I should get off my butt and get the grocery. I did manage to get my laundry in the washer before I went shopping and on the drying racks and in the dryer when I got back so that is done, all thats left is to fold and put away. Other than that, I've really done nothing else today....this week at work was such a hectic, chaotic S*** show that I think I need this day to do nothing, not even really think, if that makes sense. The weekend will be a wash because of rain all day tomorrow and most of Sunday. Oh, I did manage to take the 4 day weekend and not have to go back until Tuesday. Thats one good thing with the new supervisor....he's not against covering shifts whereas the old one never did.....So this weekend will be indoor things.....
1. Clean the basement.....cobwebs are starting to get bad again....I have to do this at least once a month with an unfinished, concrete floor and stone foundation basement.
2. Put away my summer clothes and pull my fall/winter ones out of storage. This means I'm cleaning my closet and dresser drawers....donations will be made....
3. Recycling center is a must....I have more this week for some reason...I cannot wait another week
4. My workouts will continue. I did not meet my workout goal this week....I only did 50 miles outdoors on the bike in two 25 mile rides...I'm hoping to get an hour on the spin bike tomorrow, but no weights at all this week....just couldn't fit it in....
There may be more added depending on weather but I'm thinking of taking it easy. My brain needs a break from everything it seems.
Everyone have a great weekend and continue on with small attainable goals. I'll be supporting your goals, reading and clicking the upvote heart regularly,
Today....

Woot!
