I'm certainly not enough to be called a Metallica fan, but the black album was one of my most important music discoveries of the 1990s.
The songs like "Of Wolf and Man", "Don't Thread on Me", "Struggle Within", "A Friend of Misery" then defined my emotional life, connected with anger, struggling with low self-esteem, living in a Catholic society of double standards, seeking my own identity. I think "Wherever I May Roam" is still one of my life's hymns 😊
@jacek73 Black Album is a solid outing. My favourites from that one are Sad But True and The God That Failed. Wherever I May Roam is a great shout too.

I was lucky enough to be able to see them not once but TWICE live in concert, once in Charlotte, NC and the other in Raleigh, NC, and I have to say that both concerts were absolutely amazing! I’ll never forget being able to feel the drums beating throughout my body. A truly unforgettable performance!

hey I've never listened to metallica but I am definitely open to hearing some of their songs. what would you recommend for first-time listeners?? thanks in advance :D
@greka7 Depends very much what your usual vibes are but I'll give a few recs:
- If you like classical-coded instrumentals, try Orion
- For an emotional ballad, try The Unforgiven II
- If you like country ballad vibes, Mama Said
- Short and heavy track, try Hardwired
- More mainstream rock with groove, give King Nothing a listen.
- If you want a lengthy epic that builds up over time, try One
- If you like Nu-Metal, anything from St. Anger isn't far off, so I'd recommend Frantic
- And if you're still unsure, almost everyone knows Enter Sandman so that's a safe bet
