Challenging the FAD - FOMO, Attachment, and Delusion
Hello 7 Cups Community,
This Independence day (15th Aug 2023), let's give ourselves freedom from FAD
An addictive online experience is not usually a choice. It's often a well crafted maneuver. And the 3 important tools of this craft are FAD:
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), Attachment, and Delusion.
These influences can shape our digital world in ways not always obvious.

Let's consider a quest to uncover deeper layers, moving beyond the surface, to take control of our digital interactions.
**1. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out):**
FOMO, that whisper urging us to stay connected, can blur the line between genuine interactions and shallow exchanges. Every meaningless exchange that you have had, had some FOMO behind it. It leads to the urge of being online 24/7 and be there first. It leads to the most evil energy drainer of multitasking.
Have you thought about whether every online connection is a true bond? Can we find fulfillment in a few meaningful relationships?
*Challenge:* Take a break from the digital realm and discover what insights emerge. What truths might you uncover about the depth of your virtual connections?
**2. Attachment:**
Our attachments to the online personas can bring joy, yet they might also hide us behind a mask of perfection. Online world is known to show only the positives and half truths. The overuse of filters has diluted the joy of reality.
Can we untangle the threads that bind us to this facade? Can we embrace our authenticity beyond the screen?
*Challenge:* Step back and contemplate the online relationships you've cultivated. Which of these connections resonate with your true self? How can we nurture these bonds beyond the digital surface?
**3. Delusion:**
Delusion, woven into our digital exchanges, can lead us away from reality. The virtual world overpromises and under-delivers. It will try its best to say only what you wanna hear, what you wanna see to keep you engaged.
Can we question our assumptions and see through the delusions online places can cast?
*Challenge:* Revisit a recent online interaction. Did your perceptions match reality? What can we learn by acknowledging potential distortions in our online encounters?
**Reflective Thoughts or Koans:** (A koan is a puzzle or question to be thought over. The answers dont matter as much as the thinking process does. It helps elevate our thinking)
- Can virtual kindness truly replace genuine human empathy?
- Is our value tied to online validation?
- Are we building connections or spinning illusions?
- How often do we prioritize authenticity over crafting an ideal digital self?
- If the virtual world vanished, which connections would endure the test of reality?
- Can digital connections truly match face-to-face interactions in depth?
- What if lasting happiness isn't linked to external sources?
- What remains when you release the fear of losing?
- How might life look free from the grip of expectations?
- Is longing distinct from appreciating something in the present?
- What is missed by chasing tomorrow?
- Can letting go bring freedom?
- How to see clearly through the fog?
- Is the online reflection real?
- Where do lasting bonds truly grow?
As I embark on a new journey myself, I invite you to delve deeper and explore the fabric that threads our digital lives. Have you witnessed FOMO, Attachment and delusion in your time spent online? How have FOMO, Attachment, and Delusion shaped your online experiences? Have you got a glimpse of clarity amidst the online chaos? By navigating these inquiries, we might uncover profound truths and establish connections rooted in authenticity.
With curiosity and a discerning perspective,

GoodBye!
A very well thought out post. Great points to point to tackle for the near future. Good luck on your new journey.
I think online interactions and bonding virtually is an escape route for me. Easier to speak my mind and find people who who sympathize with me. Even if we never meet each other, it makes me feel that there's someone there who actually understands me (at least with fellow members here in Cups). I have always been someone who can express myself more in writing than in spoken words.
In reality though, I long for a real connection with someone who I can sit down with and chat over coffee. For me though, past traumas and my experiences with past friends have made that difficult. I know I NEED that human connection, it's just a matter of getting the nerves and having courage to take risks.
This is such a great post Donald. I learned a lot from it and it gave me an idea on areas I need to work on myself too.
Thankyou❤
@DonaldDraper don, what a well written and explained post, it got me thinking. Yes, we've all experienced FAD in the online world knowingly or implicitly. We should take the good from everything but not make anything an addiction.
I hope we all find happiness and fulfillment in the real world too especially 🤗❤
Thank you for this perspective
This one's for you, Donald! And, for anyone else choosing to take a break, perhaps for a long long time.

@DonaldDraper this is interesting. I don't see it this way though. this post doesn't apply to me, so I'll leave it at that. goodbye friend. I hope you have a great time with the outside world. it's far better than the digital one. 😌 Wishing you peace and happiness away from all the noise. Goodbye
goodbye. from the heart fairy club
@DonaldDraper
Rather than good bye, I want to say, "see you soon." It's hard for me to say good bye to such a lovely person who always cared for me/ others and made this platform wonderful. Your efforts really matters. I will be happy to see you again. Beside this, I don't know when we will meet... Or if we ever meet next time or not... But till then I want to wish you all the best for the future. You will be missed... Always. I will miss "Hey DD, how are you?" Well, this is not the end... This is just a beginning for you to start a new journey. Stay blessed, stay happy always. You will be in our heart always. I want to say lot of things... But I can't put all of these here... And we are running out of time. Don't forget to drink water... Stay hydrated... *Hugs* ☺️❤️
Thanks & regards

Hi Don! 😊 ❤️ Thank you for this forum post and for giving me the opportunity to hear what it is that is on your mind. ❤️
I really do have to commend you for coming to a point in your life where you are able to discern what is working for you and what is not. What is real and what is simply a mirage. What is worthy of your time and what might be moments of you feeling as if you are "throwing your pearls to swine". Being able to ascertain these differences can be quite monumental.
For many of us in life, there can come moments when we decide to leave things that no longer serve us, no matter what those things may be. I feel like it's part of growth and developing as human beings. We grow and we change over time and so might our specific needs.
We can always consider what are our expectations for any situation. Were they too high? What is it that we hoped to get out of it? Should the expectations be adjusted? Ultimately, if we as people know that we are using the correct metrics to gauge things and it's just not working out, no matter what it is, it's good to have the courage to do what is in our own best interests.
I like to say "good things in = good things out". For me, I have to monitor what it is that I see, hear, experience, people that I allow into my "space", my spheres of influence, etc. in an effort to remain positive, be productive and live the happiest life that I possibly can. The threshold for everyone could be vastly different.
For me, looking inward seems to help. I have gratitude moments, focus more on what it is that I do have as opposed to what it is that I do not. I try to think of all things in moderation, know my limits as well as appreciate the most simple things in life.
Material things won't make you happy and other people won't either. Humans are fallible. Sometimes simply goal setting, striving to be your personal best and self reliance is something that can provide bigger rewards in the end. Happiness isn't a destination, but instead, a journey. Life's not a track meet, it's a marathon.
*sighs* Well, I guess this is the 15th. Here we are. I wish for you all things good. Probably be the last time I ever get to say this to you.................❤️
*high fives* 😊 and big *hugs* ❤️

You are being dualistic, Roshi Draper.
Let's have a cup of tea!
