Writer's block

I'm experiencing a very bad writer's block. I have some ideas that I wish to write on but I can't sit down and work on them patiently. Negative emotions take over like anger at not getting things done or fear of not being good enough.

Any encouragement or solution will be appreciated.

Hello!

Since you are experiencing a fear of not being good enough, try eliminating expectations.

Just start writing without having a clear goal or worrying about perfectionism.

Jotting things down will hopefully begin to give you a flow<3💛✨

I go through extended periods of time where I cannot write. I can tell you what worked for me in the past. Structured journaling helped me because it helped me to focus on something positive each day and re-focus my attention on something entirely different, which helped to clear my mind.

I also recently started using daily writing prompts which really boosted my writing. I don’t sit and think too long on one prompt. Rather I write on the one where the story is coming to me.

So essentially I think completely re-focusing my attention on something else is what’s been most beneficial to me when I have writers block. 🙂

Yeah, I'm the same. I have 2 stories I started writing and I can't rally focus on writing either because every time I do, my negative emotions overwhelm me. It's so frustrating because I finally have the time to write, but I'm too emotionally distressed to do so. :/

Hi! I would say that when feelings of anger or inadequacy bubble up, instead of letting them hinder you, try to reframe these thoughts: if I let anger or inadequacy control me then I will not try and what I fear the most is the only outcome. But if I do try, things could work, could go well, I have a higher chance. Even if I do not like what I am creating now, I can always go back and correct/tweak/revise it. It is not set in stone and I am always a work in progress.

Probably also changing the environment that you usually write in could help you. So if you usually write in your room or in a coffee shop, how about you write in a park? Or on the rooftop? Or patio? Whatever your surroundings allow.

I hope this helps. I am not a writer but there are other things I like to do that I do not engage in due to similar feelings. Sometimes the reality is that I actually need another activity to do or need to be in a better place emotionally.
