Help with my current soon-to-be ex boyfriend
My boyfriend and I have been together for 1 year and he told me that he didn't see a future with me. He said when I failed my board exam, it was a turning point and he realized so many things about me. That I was a weak person and I wasn't motivated to do better. He also said it was non-negotiable that I do not drive, swim or donate blood. He made me decide if he should leave now or after my boards so I won't suffer emotionally.
I admit that I was really emotional during my time with him. Because I had self-esteem issues and suffered from loneliness because my mother died last year. And now I want to improve myself FOR ME and not for him. But I still want him by my side.
I know the rational answer is to move on & find someone who will love me truly but I really can't let him go. :( I need your opinion on this

You are exactly right ........ any improvement or items you do should be for YOU and no one else.
while maybe he means this to be motivational ........it comes off as arrogant and mean.
Only you know what he is like behind the scenes but if you got together when you were vulnerable, you may feel bonded by the circumstance and later when you move on you might see this was the time to make a break.......

I'm sorry but I can't imagine why someone would have all those requirements for you if they cared about you?
someone who loves you would be proud of you for having done your best and would encourage you to try again. saying you are weak was not the answer. you deserve so much better. so get out there and get it. i know leaving is going to hurt a lot especially since you guys have been together for a while, but there’s something and someone out there waiting to give you the world without needing you to change fundamentals about yourself.
