Communication.

Problems cannot be fixed unless you know what they are. You cannot read the other person's mind to know what they are thinking or how they are feeling. Despite spending an entire day side by side, I can guarantee you that two individuals will have different experiences. The only way to learn about each other and to last long term is by communicating.

It is generally when communications fail that relationships go "on the rocks".

@RaynebowUnicorn

rhis is so important. My ex gf never truly communicated with me and it led to her breaking up with me over some stuff that could've been worked on.

It is so important to communicate openly and fully with your s/o and make sure that no problems go unsolved and that both parties can be honest and open with their opinions.

@whawkins Exactly! It proceeds everything. You cannot trust someone you don't feel you can talk to. While you can feel infatuation with someone, real love grows from getting to really know them, and how do you learn if you cannot communicate enough to ask questions? Honesty and loyalty come from being open, but when there is no communication, there is no openness.

Everything comes from communication, even solutions to problems.

I think it's to make a constant effort to do nice things for the other and work in the relationship always. Don't take the other for granted! Let him/her know you love him/her!

It is so so so important to have the communication tools when in a relationship. That's something my ex gf never truly wanted to do and it ended up separating us. Things she held onto but never brought forward ultimately made her feelings for me change.

If there is ever a time to communicate with your S/o it is during your relationship, not after. It's the key to solving a lot of smaller issues that can't be solved by ignoring or saying that nothing is bothering you.
