One Small Conversation, One Big Realization

Today my boyfriend said, “Girls eventually have to cook. Other things can still be managed somehow, but cooking is something a woman has to do.”

I didn’t argue with him. I just said that his expectations aren’t wrong, but I’m a different kind of person and I look for a different mindset in a relationship.

Then he replied, “Even if you end up having an arranged marriage with someone else, you’ll still have to cook one day. Then you’ll realize I was right and regret not listening to me.”

And honestly, that line stayed in my head.

Not because of cooking itself, but because I realized how differently we both see relationships. I never wanted a relationship where things are decided based on “because you’re a girl.” I wanted a partnership where both people think of managing life together.

Now I genuinely don’t know if compatibility is more about love or about mindset.

Well, he's sorta kinda right, right? Females do have to eventually cook. But guess what? So do males. 😀 As a matter of fact, throw sex out the window. Anyone who wants to live and likes to eat should eventually have to cook/learn to cook. When it comes to cooking-- it's no one person's job just because if they are male or female.

My dad showed me that. He loved to cook. He was the best cook in my entire world and he showed that cooking was not just for a woman. I'm a female, but I don't enjoy cooking at all. I have no passion and do it only because I have a family. If it was just me, I would eat out or have someone cook for me if I was rich. 😂

These kind of talks are important to have. People can have difference in views and opinions, but it's important to still talk. You can learn a lot from a person based on what they say and do. But remember, you have to be the one to decide what you're willing to tolerate, accept, or dismiss. Take care!

I get it you do not enjoy or want to cook and that is ok.  many people do not enjoy it but end up doing it in a relationship or with a family.

Partners sometimes say stupid things, but I think too many times we take offense to any remark about "we should because..... ".  Especially if it is about gender roles.

Other poster has a valid point learning how to cook or having basic skills cooking is just a good idea for anyone.
