I ruined everything

I dated a girl for a bit more than a year. We broke up a little bit more than an year ago. Not on good terms. I thought I finally moved on about 8 months after the breakup and started dating this girl. From nowhere I start missing my ex. I didn’t want to stay w my gf because that’d be unfair to her so I broke up. Then I texted my ex and she told me she hasn’t moved on either but she won’t get back because she wants someone different than me. She wants to explore other guys and find sm1 perfect for her. That was genuinely the most gut wrenching thing Ive ever heard. This genuinely feels so horrible.

I know it hurts and the fact she has not moved on and you did not want to date others means something it has been a year I think you both have changed. Life is a series of growing and changing and that is why it is so hard to find someone perfect because they are perfect in the moment but often not the long run.

talk to her about the changes and there is a reason you both been thinking about each other. finding someone who gets you is important.

We talked already. She made it clear that she’s not getting back. She knows I’ve changed for the better.

It really sucks that you’re going through all of this, but I just want you to know that I don’t think you ruined anything, and I don’t think this is your fault.

If your ex wants to explore other relationships and find someone she feels is a better fit for her, then maybe the breakup was simply a realization that she wanted something different. As painful as that is, I don’t think it means you weren’t good enough.

Sometimes a breakup is realizing that two people want different things. As hard as it is right now, I hope you can eventually see that the breakup may have saved you from spending more time with someone who wasn’t able to fully appreciate what you brought to the relationship. You deserve someone who chooses you without wondering if there’s something better out there.
