Do I need to reevaluate my relationship?
My boyfriend(28M) and I (28F) have been dating for 3 1/2 years. He’s my very first serious relationship and the only man I’ve been with sexually. I know the next step of marriage is approaching soon, and I’m getting cold feet. I don’t know if that’s normal or not… he’s the best partner I could ever ask for, but I do feel like I haven’t really gotten a chance to explore me. There are things that I know for sure that I have to work on and I won’t want to be 10 years in a marriage and not feel like I got to really learn about myself and explore myself. I don’t want to lose this relationship but I also don’t want to regret taking time to focus on myself. Any advice?
i married early and did not sow any wild oats or learn about myself .......
I regret it deeply ...... know some one is a good fit is important but to tie yourself down and then wonder what if is miserable
This is a natural and common feeling many many many people of any gender experience. especially since he was your first serious relationship and sexual experience it’s only natural to wonder about who you’d be outside of that relationship.
ask yourself, though: does your desire to explore “you” also include your desire to explore other sexual experiences or mingle with single folks and see where things go? If so, then it sounds like exploring yourself would impede on your relationship and you wouldn’t be able to do both so would have to decide which is best.
If your desire is just to spend some time alone, maybe travel by yourself or something of that nature, then you could talk to your partner about this saying you want to spend time living by yourself (if you two live together) or with family if you have that option so that you can better and more richly appreciate your partnership.
all thar said, it sounds you are sure of the love between you two and I think it’s worth asking yourself why you really are feeling this desire. While sometimes someone will genuinely benefit from spending time away from the relationship, a lot of times I feel it is just our minds getting the best of us or believing “the grass is greener on the other side”, in this case maybe feeling there is something you missed out on. If he is your first serious relationship and you didn’t get together until you were 24, it sounds like you had a good 5-6 years of adulthood by yourself, so keep that in mind. I say this because I too experience this cold feet yet have had enough experience outside of the relationship that I don’t really need to find out what I’m missing, yet those feelings and thoughts still present themselves.
you don’t want to end up forfeiting the relationship and realize that you regret more the loss of it than anything time spent alone could give you. That’s why I stress the importance of exploring why you are feeling this urge and if it’s just cold feet or truly something more. If you feel comfortable you can talk to your partner about feeling cold feet and let him know you’re so sure of your love for him but for whatever reason you’re feeling this.
i think this is a struggle many of us tend to face in relationships in our twenties especially. If you lose what you have, you know what you lost, but you’ll never know what could’ve been, and sometimes it’s best that way to not know.
Hi dear,
Thankfully we are living in an era that women in the modern world don't have to get married by force or people think less of her if she isn't married (at least in most of the countries and culture). If you don't feel like marrying then don't.. nobody force you to. Marriage is just paperwork that can't hold anyone.if people want to break up they do even if they are married. Don't put that stress on you if you are not ready.. if a man in his 28 is not forced by society to get married why should a woman be?
If you truly love your partner and want him in your life then do so. That doesn't mean you can't evolve and explore new things you like . For example if you like a new hobby do it.
We are unique people and have unique needs . Do the stuff you like and it's ok to do it alone. For example if you like theater and he is not, it doesn't mean you can't go because you can't go together. Book yourself a ticket and enjoy your play and after grab dinner with him if you both like that.
Now in case you want to explore other partners that's another thing and you should be clear about that with your partner. Because it's unfair to go behind his back and cheat. If you want that be brave and take responsibility of your decision and let the man go.
I hope i helped a bit.
Take care
