Relationships and expectations
Hi everyone! I hope you have been enjoying our discussions on relationships and the topics that surround them. Today we will talk about expectations surrounding relationships. Life is filled with unwritten rules and expectations that we all get caught in, sometimes for better or worse.
What are some expectations that surround these following relationships? (You may choose one role to answer or all)
Parents
Siblings
Romantic Partner
Children
Friends

Here's are my expectations for the following:
Parents- unconditional love and acceptance
Siblings- support
Romantic Partner- commitment and faithfulness, respect, love, etc.
Children- obedient, well-mannered, and
Friends- understanding, support, loyalty

I tried formulating a list of some expectations. But I believe its not exhaustive. It is subjective rather. Expectations can be disappointing if not met. I like to limit having expectations or it can be a demotivator. Anyway, its just my pov. 🙂

Parents: loving, supportive, accepting, there for their child, emotionally available, capable of teaching their child how to self-regulate and how to solve issues along the way.
Siblings: supportive and accepting of their sibling, able to communicate with their sibling
Romantic Partner: able to openly communicate and express themselves, trustworthy, respectful, faithful, open to change
Children: I have no expectation for children as I believe children are a reflection of parents and how parents treat them and how they treat themselves in front of their children.
Friends: to be supportive and accepting, as well as be open to communication

I think there is a difference here between actual expectations and what I think my expectations should be. Logically my expectations of my partner are quite reasonable- to be honest and trustworthy and to make mistakes etc. But deep down my expectation was that they would solve all my problems. An impossible expectation.

Children : from my plant child, I expect nothing :P
