Out of practice and into someone who doesn't speak my language... Literally

Recently single grad student and I'm into this guy in my class. I keep picking up on signs he could be into me, but I can't tell for certain, mostly because there's a significant language barrier that makes things extra awkward.

He'll hover around me in labs and in social events, I'll see him look at me sometimes, go to events I organize, including studying even though I feel like he's way better at this course than me, he will ask me questions about myself when he can, he even went out of his way to get me the insiders scoop on parking on campus when he found out I didn't have a pass for my car. But I can't tell if he hangs around me because I try to be friendly and engaging with everyone and being an exchange student is hard, or if it's because there's something more there. He's mentioned some things before that made me think he might have been dropping hints, about like, going to movie theatres and etc, but it's hard to say because he also could have just been trying to make conversation and it was difficult to understand.

I'm so out of practice after being in a relationship 4 years that I don't know how to interact with a person who speaks the same language, let alone interpret the intentions of someone who doesn't and is also awkward like myself. I'm worried I'm just going to misinterpret everything and then whatever friendship we have forming will become awkward and die if I do anything. And don't get me started on the whole "working with supervisor's whose spaces are right across from each other and everyone finding out if we do date" fear.

I'm not looking for anything serious for a while but I want to talk to him and get to know him more in a romantic sense, so I've been debating asking him out one on one. But it's so hard to know if he's putting out the vibes I'm feeling or not without outright asking super bluntly and risking everything. I just don't know how to approach it!!!!!! I'm a verbal person, and not a body language expert, but he seems really nice and chill and I would like to know him better.

@casiopea3199

Maybe just ask him if he wants to go to see a movie, etc.? I mean, you can also go to movies as friends, it doesn't necessarily have to be romantic. And then during the one on one outing, you can get to know him further and then decide.
