7 Aspects to Balance in Life
Hello and welcome back to The Self-Care Lounge 💜
I was recently reminded of "balance" by a dear friend of mine, a vital part of self-care. No less than the universe taught us the importance of balance.
The word itself defined as:
Noun:
-
An even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.
-
A condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportion.
Verb:
Keep or put (something) in a steady position so that it does not fall.
Putting it all together, we are best able to remain upright and steady when different aspects in our lives are in the right proportion. (with consideration to achievable condition)
Let's do self-check to different elements in our lives!
Dr. Revel Miller, a Psychologist based in USA, researched, studied and wrote The Life Wheel: 7 Aspects of Who You Are:

I think the only ones I'm not happy with my ratings in are social and behavioral. I'm an immigrant and the standard modes of interaction in my region are very different than what is considered acceptable here. It is difficult to find a balance between struggling with unaccepting people and not feeling that I am sacrificing myself to the acculturation.
2. Do you think if our life wheel is off-balance significantly in a long time, it will affect us? If yes, in what way?
Yes, I believe that there are a number of mental and physical rammifications for living unbalanced. I am working on thinking of tactics for moving towards what I desire.
3. What is your idea or tips to make our 7 aspects of life wheel more balanced?
I can think about how women I admire from my own country would react if they were in my position, and try to implement some of these fantasies.
@nordurnStar
Adjusting to a significantly different culture doesn't sounds easy at all. I'm glad to hear you maintain the other aspects well in that situation. That's pretty cool!
Great tip there. To think about people we admire, what would they do in a particular situation we're in.
Coincidentally, just the tip I needed now. Thank you 💜

1. On a scale 1 to 10 with 1 being completely out of balance and 10 being can't be better, how would you rate your balance between these aspects on the life wheel?
I think I'm about a 4 or 5. I'm definitely off balance with several portions of my life.
2. Do you think if our life wheel is off-balance significantly in a long time, it will affect us? If yes, in what way? Absolutely. When everything is off balance it makes life full of stress, and stress means your mental and physical health suffer, and when those suffer, everything in your life seems to suffer.
3. What is your idea or tips to make our 7 aspects of life wheel more balanced? I think it starts with seeing that "Self" right in the middle. We ignore that SOOO much. And then just taking one point from each wheel spoke and trying to strive to make that better for your Self. We can't do it all at once, but just one thing to work toward, and then the next, and eventually you start becoming more balanced.
1. On a scale 1 to 10 with 1 being completely off-balance and 10 being can't be better, how would you rate your balance between these aspects on the life wheel?
I'd say somewhere between 4 and 5. And when my trigger responds at full force, somewhere between 1 an 2.
2. Do you think if our life wheel is off-balance significantly in a long time, it will affect us? If yes, in what way?
Interesting question. I've thought about that before. If you define "us" as people close to my heart, they will be affected if they let themselves be affected. If something happened, and I feel deeply hurt, a close friend might "participate" in my hurt. Or that close friend might listen, just listen, be compassionate and emphatic, without feeling the hurt I feel.
On the other hand, I believe (and it's a belief I started to have as a child) that all is energy. The universum is energy. Balanced. Negative energy (like me feeling hurt, and hurt, and continuously feeling hurt) is balanced by positive energy, somewhere in the universe. Not necessarily on "world" level.
So yes, being off-balance for a significant long time might have impact on "world" level. On "universe" level it has no impact.
3. What is your idea or tips to make our 7 aspects of life wheel more balanced?
You could focus on one of the aspects, or more. And work on improvement. There's a better way. Start with self. Self means to me my true being, here and now. There is no place for emotions and thoughts in self. It is thoughts and emotions that feed one or more segments of the wheel. Actually, only one segment has to be fed. All other segments will follow, as all segments are connected and interact, through emotions and thoughts.
So the trick is being self, being totally aware, focused, grounded, at ease, whatever you want to call it. If you are true self, you are aware, so you can look at a situation that seems to impact (a segment of) the wheel (apart from self). Then you'll know how to deal with the situation. Or, more interesting, there is no situation. The only situation is a story that you created, for whatever reason. In such a case you might have seen red flags (and your intuition was right), witnessed "weird" behavior from your partner (and again, your intuition might be right), all proven by files you found. Before you know it, you have created a h ell of a story. Totally ignoring your partner's true love for you, because you were so focused on "being right" and "I knew it".
Anyway, balance is self. If you feel genuine love for self, for being, you can be aware of any situation, as you are able to look at the situation. And act (not acting is an act too).
Hi @dukeofdearham
That's an awesome and a thorough thoughts. I agree to some extent about energy. If we don't like ourselves, we're sending ourselves negative vibes in the form of inner criticism or negative self-talk. When we despise someone, regardless we fake it, the negative energy still sent out. And the sensitive one may be able to feel it. So, the way I see it, the only way is to learn to sincerely forgive ourselves and others who wronged us. What do you think?.
You have a great point there about the importance of the Self aspect. However, without the other aspects in balance, isn't the Self balance will be off-balance?
@ouiCherie,
I sense too that sensitive people can pick up on energies. It does require one to be aware, as you might say that there is negative energy around someone, whereas it's your mind telling you so. So, if you are not aware, it might actually be your own negative energy you're experiencing.
I agree on foregiveness. If you can't forgive yourself, you can't forgive others. Forgiving doesn't mean forgetting. Forgiving is the "easy" part. Forgetting is another kettle of fish, to me forgetting seems to be the true challenge. I'd say that if something happens, and it triggers what you forgave, and not forgot, then you actually might not have fully forgiven. If you truly forgive yourself, you still might never forget. However, by truly forgiving yourself, then if whatever was forgiven creates a situation ("you are triggered"), you will be able to look at the situation from within, as your true self, your being. And your emotions will not take over and start feeding your forgiveness in a negative way. Like "here we go again, I just knew I couldn't trust you".
The Self balance will not be off balance, as self has no balance. It's one, being, unconditional love. Only by being, your true self, you will be able to look at any imbalances within the segments of the wheel. Self is what all aspects revolve around. Speaking for myself, I do have an imbalance which I thought I dealt with, well, not even close. My emotions can take over, and do damage. When that happens, I am not aware (enough) to prevent me from giving in to my trigger. Primary impact is on the "Emotional" aspect of the wheel. However, it impacts all aspects of the wheel, except for Self. Meaning, when I get overemotional and angry, I am totally acting from the emotional aspect. So the challenge is to stay self. If you are self, you'll find that it will be much easier to deal with any primary imbalance in the wheel.
Personally, I do find the Life Wheel interesting though useless. You can start digging in one aspect, do whatever to try to restore a balance, or create one. Now, how about stepping out of a situation that occurs? Be aware, look what is going on. Permit yourself to feel how you feel at the moment, while staying within your true self. And action upon that.
To add to the previous paragraph, what has helped me is to write down my trigger moments. When, what was the situation, how serious was my anger, and, most importantly, how did I feel and any memories that might pop up when writing down your feelings. It helped me to understand. I am not healed yet, maybe I never will. At least I took a vital step to be more self and less me.
1. I'm about 7-8 on balance w/ all aspects. I feel like I can improve socially. 2. Yes, if our life wheel is off balance for a prolonged time period, the effects could be serious. If your self wheel isn't balanced, the result could be depression or depressing thoughts. No balance in the physical aspect can lead to physical issues, like health problems. 3. I'm not always balanced with those 7 aspects. My ideas are to take action with a growth mindset and for your own good. Maybe remind yourself of these 7 aspects to balance, and live your life while balancing these to your best abilities.
1. On a scale 1 to 10 with 1 being completely off-balance and 10 being can't be better, how would you rate your balance between these aspects on the life wheel?
4 or 5. In my life unfortunately some of these aspects have been lacking and not possible because of life circumstances, experiences, challenges and obstables. Especially when it comes to external aspects.
2. Do you think if our life wheel is off-balance significantly in a long time, it will affect us? If yes, in what way?
I definitely do think that if our life wheel is off-balanced significantly for a long time it will affect us. I also thing that sometimes we don't even notice how much one of these aspects might be off-balanced in our lives.
3. What is your idea or tips to make our 7 aspects of life wheel more balanced?
I think it is important to check in with yourself and your lives. Like sitting down and doing the life wheel activity is a good idea because it is one of the ways to evaluate just that.
