Account Deactivated!

Your account has been deactivated due to a
violation of the 7 Cups Terms of Service.
For more information please review our Support Desk FAQ.
To request a second review of your account, please use this form.

You may have seen this prompt before and have wondered, why did this happen? In this post, I break down all the possible reasons for this and walk you through what to do next! Accounts are deactivated for activity that violates the Community Guidelines. Common reasons for deactivation include:

  • Inappropriate Content: Sending sexual, violent, or harassing messages.

  • Wrong Age Group: If you are in the wrong age group, your account will be deactivated and upon writing in, you will be asked to verify your age.

  • Solicitation: Asking other members for money, personal contact info, or professional services.

  • Offsiting: Sharing social media handles/emails/phone numbers to connect off-platform. Examples: T/elegram, WhatsApp, D/iscord, IG

  • Breaching user confidentiality: Disclosing your account identities. Example: Letting others know your member account while under your listener account.

  • Romantic Relationships: 7 Cups is a support community, not a dating site. Using the platform to find romantic partners or pursue relationships is strictly prohibited.

  • Listener Violations: Gamifying the system to give yourself reviews, Impersonating any user, admin or Community mod account, ATLs who engage in offsite contact with teens.

  • Multiple Accounts: Creating extra accounts to get around a block or suspension.

To address infractions, we use a Behavioral Points System to balance accountability with improvement, ensuring that members who break a rule have a transparent opportunity to do better rather than just facing punishment. Read up on it here.

What To Do (The Appeal Process)

Do not create a new account. If you create a new account while your main one is banned, the system will flag it as "Ban Evasion." This will make it much harder to get your original account back.

Instead, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Link: In the error message, there is a link that says "please use this form." Click that immediately.

  2. Fill Out the Form: You will need to provide your username, email, and an explanation.

  3. Be Honest: If you know you broke a rule (even accidentally, like sharing a social media handle), admit it and apologize. If you genuinely believe it was a mistake (e.g., you were flagged for being underage but you are an adult), offer to provide proof of age.

  4. Wait: We have a Safety team that reviews these manually.

7 Cups relies on community safety. If the violation is severe (like safety risks), the system may deactivate the account automatically to protect the community until a human can review it. This is why the review form is your best option. It puts your case in front of a real human staff member.

Note: If you have not received a response from 7 Cups within 72 hours, check your spam folder.

In closing: When in doubt, consult the Community Guidelines. Read them in full here. If you have any questions, contact our Help Center. We’re here to help!

Thank you for explaining, Heather. Something I have heard is that sometimes users do not get an email, is there a way we can try to stay on top of that when people are put on breaks so they know what they did, this inspires transparency in the community and allows them to take informed accountability. @Heather225

As a PTSD dyslexic but also lifetime health worker (PS this is a really dyslexic unfriendly site!), why have I received this, seemingly in error!? It's dangerous!

@SilverTabbyCat63

What exactly do you mean? This is a thread providing education about something that can happen on the website.

@SilverTabbyCat63 Sometimes they post threads so everyone gets a chance to see it. Kind of like it's pinned at the top?

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the site dyslexia wise. Maybe you could bring this up with Glen or make a suggestion to the tech team? There's a couple of things that they might be able to use or implement that could help.
